Hello all,
unusual one here I think, at least according to my vet.

Roger pig developed a large lump on his throat. It was found by the vet after I took him in due to losing weight with difficulty eating. He is very fluffy with lots of folds, doesn't like his chin scratched so I didn't notice :(

After xray etc, they removed the right hand thyroid (apparently there are 2). Vet said she had never seen this problem in pigs, and could only find one article it and a call to a few local vets found the same. It's unlikley to have been cancerous she thinks, but at the moment I can't afford the tests on it, at least not until the end of the month. I haven't read up much yet on why this can happen but I'm hopeful for a full recovery as the same op in other animals is often very successful according to my vet.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this or knows anyone?

At the moment he's rather sad and sleepy but wants to eat, still struggling as his throat must be sore but at least he's interested, as he wasn't before! I'm a lot poorer now but I'm so glad they have done something, he's only two but a pleasure we wouldn't be without.

Sorry I have no experience of this, but didnt want to read and run.... Is he on pain relief at the moment for after the operation?

Yes he has metacam at the moment, feel very sorry for him. He's interested in food but not taking much in - it must be painful to eat/open his mouth I suppose, so he's getting critical care every hour or as much as I can cram in.
