I thought it was about time to introduce you to the new gang - none of whom I had any intention of taking in! Over the last few years our numbers have been depleting, at one time we had 13 piggies but sadly we were recently down to our last pair of girlies, Bella and Smudge. In addition to our own girlies I also foster for Crawley GP Rescue and am currently mum to 8 gorgeous boys.
Last autumn a friend asked me to take in a tiny baby piggy she had removed from a pet shop along with it's sibling and a very sick rabbit. The piggies were in a "sale" and she feared what was going to become of them and a bunny in the shop was critically ill. My friend took the animals straight to the vets and sadly the bunny had to be put to sleep as it was in such a serious condition - the vet said she had never seen anything like it. My poor friend was distraught. Anyway, she asked if I could take the female piggy in and she kept the male with her. She has subsequently reported the shop to the local council and trading standards - we are still awaiting the outcome.
Anyway, without further ado, meet Autumn.

When Autumn arrived she was tiny and although we knew she had been in a cage with at least one boar I was keeping all fingers and toes crossed that she was too young to have been caught. Sadly, after being with us for a few weeks it became apparent that she was indeed pregnant and she went on to have one baby just before Christmas - she could only have been about 14 weeks old. Thanks to the wonderful Suzy I was all geared up for the event and Autumn managed beautifully, we woke up one morning to find our new arrival Alvin.

Since Alvin's birth, Autumn's true colours have materialised and where she was once quite a placid piggy, she is now anything but a laid back, quiet girl! Once we had split the pair up (they live side by side at the moment) we tried to introduce Autumn to our older girlies but she turned out to be a real thug and she and Smudge really didn't hit it off! I was talking to Jenny (CGPR) about what to do with Autumn and she said she had one single girlie in rescue who was looking for her forever home. Sharon (Flips) kindly brought Bambi over and much to my amazement the pair hit it off.

Autumn can still be a bit of a stroppy mare, but Bambi - now called Bumble - stands her ground and they seem to be getting along ok.
I was so hoping Alvin was going to be a little sow, which would have made life much easier, but it wasn't to be. At the moment he lives next door to the girls (indoors) and the plan is to get him neutered when he is old enough and we will then try to re-introduce him to his mum and Auntie Bumble.
We now only have Bella from our original group of piggies and she is an elderly lady of 7 1/2. She lives in the playroom with the rest of the gang but has her own cage, teddy and snuggle bed and quietly watches the mayhem that the youngsters cause! It is years since we had youngsters in the house and I have to say I spend so much time just watching them all, they are just great fun.
Gorgeous Bella - can you see a bit of a theme emerging here, ginger mad!
