so I was wondering if timothy hay is the same no matter what brand?
like here in Norway we have timothy hay, but it's not Oxbow, it's Norway own best quality hay. Should I get it or is it not timothy hay?

It will be timothy, but different qualities vary between different brands. Sometimes the cheapest are the best quality and sometimes the exspensive one is. I guess it depends what weather has been in the area it has been grown and what soil it is grown in. I do notice that oxbow always looks spot on though

it is the best quality hay in norway so, i use the same brand just another type

I buy Oxbow hay for my Finn and Lara, grown in the USA, which I like for my piggies.

Here is the shipment I received of Oxbow hay a couple week ago, each 2.55kg so total of over 10kg for 4 bags. I ordered some other chew toys as well at that time.

I would imagine it’s the same, there are different cuts of Timothy hay and by ‘the same’ do you mean the quality? Check out the hay guide: A Comprehensive Hay Guide for Guinea Pigs (incl. providers in several countries)
There isn’t a list of suppliers for Norway though, I apologise.

How do you afford oxbow? I see a big bag that was about £35 in a local horse feed place . It wasnt horse sized. Just like a big bag of guinea or rabbit hay.

Alfalfa king is the best i think

If a bag of hay doesnt state what type it is, in my experience, its normally meadow hay

I like to buy Oxbow hay on sale, so whenever I visit the pet stores and see Oxbow hay on sale, I buy them as well. So basically, I buy Oxbow hay both at the pet shops and online, which is then delivered to my house. This way, I never run out of Oxbow hay for my Finn and Lara.

I have never run out of hay before, not even veggies. The only thing I ever run out of are herbs like basil, parsley, coriander or cilantro. I also give them some fruits in small amounts due to high sugar contents.

ok, great! must be some happy piggies, but we don't have oxbow timothy hay here, but timothy hay in the norwegian version

you should not give your pigs alfalfa normally, its not good for them.

I also get Oxbow pellets for my Finn and Lara. They love it so I never changed it. I also heard changing pellets will have to take place very slowly so they have time to get used to it. My boy Finn has always had Oxbow pellets since he was a little baby. But, I know Lara had some other pellets before she came to live with us, some other brand of pellets I don't really know anything about. Lara changed slowly to eating Oxbow pellets when she came to live with us and this was about a year ago.

My boy Finn and Lara live in separate cages by the way. I am not a breeder so I will cause more trouble than good if I allowed them to have babies.

From my experience, Oxbow is the best quality hay and my piggy doesn't leave any when I give it to her. It is worth the price.

I believe the OP was saying Oxbow isnt available in her country.
There are many good brands of timothy hay, and as it is a natural product it varies with batch and weather from any supplier. A good timothy hay is usually quite green and spiky compared to meadow hay, it is coarser textured so very good for the teeth.
I am sure norwegian timothy hay can be as good as any other! We like to buy the Science Selective brand of timothy hay at our house in a big city in the UK but many forum folks get their hay from local farms and suppliers which can be much cheaper and also very good quality as it is fresher and you can see what you are getting.

Maybe Get him neutered so they can be together?

My boy Finn is just a baby, one and a half years old. He hasn't lived long enough to risk a surgery to fix him.

Lara came to me beucase my friend appointed me as Lara's pet parent and this happened while I was looking for a cage mate for my boy Finn. I wouldn't have selected a girl as a cage mate, I was looking for a boy to room with my boy Finn.

I just want my boy Finn to be around as long as he can because he is my boy.

I just didn't want to see Lara homeless so I took her in and bought her a seperate cage for $100. It has been about a year since she came to live with us.
Lara wasn't properly cared for by my friend because veggies, herbs or fruits weren't fed according to this friend who seemed clueless about raising a piggy. Lara was alone in her open playpen, scared, underfed, and very thin. She only ate pellets and wasn't getting any hay.
To see something like that, I had to bring her in to my house when a chance was presented to me.

Lara gets plenty of good veggies, herbs and some fruits. She also gets endless amount of Oxbow hay and some Oxbow pellets now that she lives with us.

I currently use Timothy Hay by Kaytee, but I'm slowly going to start switching to Oxbow. That way, my piggies can be on the same brand of food/hay. For those who say that Oxbow is expensive, I buy Oxbow brand from a farm supply store near my area. This store is cheaper than getting it online. Maybe you have a store like this near you. :)
