Sorry to create yet another illness thread... I swear illness loves company in this house!

So Tonks originally was taken to the vets for her breathing but it’s turned out to be more complex as the vet has found some more lumps I hadn’t noticed, bad mummy :(

She is going in for her second mastectomy and lump removal on Thursday, very worried. I think this must be linked to something hormonal as they’ve returned in the breast/groin area again (she has very strong seasons too) and the vet thinks so too. Her previous lumps weren’t cancerous.

I asked about the possibility of having her spade at the same time to save her any more ops (she is a terrible post op pig) but obviously it’s not great for them to be under too long so it depends how long it takes for them to remove the first lot.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice, or have experienced something similar. Thanks guys!

Hope all goes well for Tonks.
Jemimah did well after an emergency spay last year, so hope things are equally good for Tonks.

My departed old lady Violet had a large lump in her groin that was removed at the same time as a spay. She did amazingly well afterwards (she was no spring chicken) considering she had a lot of stitches.

I had my lovely piggy Mabel spayed a couple of years ago. I went in to feed them in the morning and she wasn't her normal self. When I picked her up, there was blood coming from her bottom (proper blood rather than blood in the urine). Anyway, I took her straight to the guinea pig vet who scanned her and thought she could see a small lump in her womb. She recommended that she should have her womb removed. She recovered really well from the op and lived problem free for many years afterwards.

Hope everything goes well for your pig

Thanks everyone for your well wishes & advice. I really appreciate it!

Yea I really hope they take her womb at the same time, I’d really rather she just had one op rather than two. Anyone heard of a mastectomy, lump removal & spay in one go?

Although Tonks isn’t very old she chewed her stitches open repeatedly last time so I’m not looking forward to her aftercare!

All the best for Thursday. Please let us know how you both get on. I've had mixed results with spays. I learnt that you need a vet with experience for the better results. (first one was an emergency following bad pregnancy and just used closest vet!) I really do hope all goes OK.

Tonks has now gone in for her operation, I’m terrified! I hope she’s okay. The likelyhood of being able to spay at the same time isn’t great as they don’t want to keep her under for too long after the lump and breast removal so we may be needing a spay some other time.

I hate leaving her there, she’s so scared all the time bless her. I worry about her the most.

Thanks guys :) Yes the waiting is the worst part, especially for her because she is so frightened. She’s still young but poor genetics has me worried. Dreading when she has her spay! I think it will be necessary, if it will stop growths forming and I wonder if she has ovarian cysts but I would obviously rather she didn’t have more operations... it’s so hard to know what to do. My poor little princess!

Thank you so much! Just had a call from the vets saying she’s very subdued, not wriggling when being examined and that, is it still okay for her to go under so I was like “yes :bye: she’s normally like that... I think?!” so now I’m super worried! Apparently her heart and lungs sound fine so I’m just hoping and praying. She’s going under now... gunna sit here and stew I think! :mal:

One of our sanctuary piggies had a large mammary lump removed on Monday. Pre op check detected heart arrhythmia, so the operation was potentially risky, but she needed it doing. She came round quickly and hasn't stopped eating since. You wouldn't think she'd had anything done! Post op check tomorrow. At some point she may need spaying, but for now we aren't rushing into it, as it is a bigger op and with her dodgy sounding heart, we will only go ahead, if necessary.

Hoping your little lady is soon on the mend!

Oh bless you and little Tonks. I am keeping my fingers crossed here for you.

Hope the operation is a success for her.

Hope all goes well for her :)
My Jess had a huge mammary gland cyst operated on a few years ago, was like a plum sticking out and shooting liquid everywhere when you touched it. Very bizarre and had a huge scar as her mammary gland and other bits and bobs removed (well a mastectomy, only has one nipple now but you can't even see the scar, was a good 4/5inches).
She was in the carrier with Rupert scoffing hay and acting like nothing had happened when I picked her up! Hope Tonks will be the same :D Xx

Thank you all so much, she’s now home and has eaten a little. She’s very dozy and sounds a bit hooty but it was a long GA for her.

They spent quite a while on her so couldn’t spay, they’re sending the growths for tests but apparently 2 sections were necrotic which is worrying. I’m guessing this means dead tissue but I’m not 100% on how it happened.

Here she is now, having some critical care sitting on her nanny while I spoon feed her!
