I read a long time age that too much cabbage gives GP`s a lot of stomache gas and causes discomfort.

Anyone know if this is true or false.

I am feeding mine cabbage (mainly sweetheart/greens/cauliflower leaves) regularly and have never had any problems!

It CAN cause difficulty in some few sensitive guinea pigs, so I won't say categorically "false". If you happen to have a piggy with a delicate digestive system, I'd stay off it.

But with cabbage as one part of your "five veg a day" you shouldn't have anything to fear!

(PS: I grew up in Switzerland with being told that clover will cause colics - never had any problems with pigs on clover patches on my lawn!)

There are some pigs who are susceptible to bloat, and cabbage is one of the most common foods that aggravate the condition. I am having to avoid all cabbage/kale/broccoli due to the effect it causes in my two "gassy" pigs.

However, provided your pigs are not susceptible to bloat, cabbage can be fed daily, but it's best to moderate the amount you feed.

How can you see if a GP has `bloat`?

Does its stomach look swollen?

The belly feels hard and swollen. And the guinea pig will show signs that it is feeling unwell and stops eating.

If you suspect bloat, get the piggy to the vet as soon as possible, as it can kill!

everything in moderation i think is the key to most things
