Do guins monitor their own diet or are they like dogs and eat eat eat until its gone?.

my fridge is piled high with fruit and veg(I am vegan).

My new mother and her two bubs are feed when there is no food left. is this ok? or are they likely to become obese. my rescue rab was fat whenshe arrived and it was hard to get her weight down

venice with thanks

My guineas just eat and eat and eat - I think most are like this to be honest

I only give them a breakfast and a tea when it comes to the veg but always make sure they have hay :)

xx

I have read on other threads that they will only eat what they require. Perhaps your new mum and bubs just require quite a lot right now?

They will stop when they are satisfied. but for some pigs, this may require a lot of eating lol. Being a mother she will need extra to recover from her pregnancy, and so will the bubs as they are growing and need heaps of milk from mum if they arent weaned yet. so i would give them as much as they can eat, as suggested, morning and night.
Dont worry about obesity, the only way they will get fat is if there cage is too small and/or they arent given enough 'run around' time out of there cage. too many sunflower seed will do it too, so make sure they dont get too many fatty grains.
