Following on from my thread this morning Julie and I have spent most of the evening watching Blaze & Scampy's behaviour and are convinced that Scampy is the problem. His behaviour and attitude seem to have drastically changed. He's no longer the sweet piggie that loves his lap time and was quite happy for Blaze to be the dominant one, but is instead quite aggressive towards Blaze, will not settle on either Julie's or my lap and most noticeably, suddenly appears to be extremely "bothered" by the smells of our other piggies, Dylan & Pepe, where before he didn't seem at all bothered. This appears to have coincided with Blaze's little bout of diarrhoea. He's obviously reaching his sexual maturity (he's about 8 months old now) but I can't believe that such a loveable little piggie could have such a drastic change in personality almost overnight, turning him in to such a demon. We're both worried it could be something medical that's causing this. :'(

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Total Change In Behaviour

I would suggest getting him checked out by a vet. I'm no piggie expert but the first sign of illness in a rabbit is oftwen that they are not quite "themselves". Best to rule out any physical problem. :)

Yes, we were wondering that too. Coincidentally, what with Blaze's problems last weekend, we've made an appointment with CCT for all of our boys this Saturday so hopefully that might shed some light.

Maybe if you introduce all your pigs to eachother, one by one they might not be so upset about different smells?
But I woud also take him to the vets :)

I agree, take him to the vet just to make sure. I do know, however, that he is not reaching sexual maturity. Guinea pigs do that at about 4-6 weeks, sometimes a little earlier and sometimes a little later.

Oh dear. We've had both of them out tonignt on our laps and for a moment we thought that they were starting to get along again, until Scampy went for Blaze. He's bitten a hole about 5 mm in Blaze's shoulder :(

We rang the vet who suggested that, since Blaze doesn't appear to be in shock and doesn't appear to be bleeding, to take him to the vet's tomorrow where he may need a stitch or two. We'll have to take Scampy as well as we're now clearly concerned that this drastic change in Scampy's personality has been brought about by some medical problem.

I can't believe how everything's gone downhill for our two lovely piggies in the space of a week. :(

Oh dear! I'm so sorry... I hope they are feeling okay and Scampy isnt sick... :(
