Trace of protein in urine and Ph of 8

the PH is normal (8-8.5) not sure about the protein, my sow is having problems with her bladder at the moment and she had an off the scale reading of blood in her urine and also a trace of protein, she had/has grit and sludge in her bladder, this could be a possibilty with connie maybe?
 
Thank you for that :) The trace of blood has now gone and her urine is being sent to the lab sometime next week when I can get enough of a sample. If you don't mind me asking, did she have any symtoms? How did the vet no that she had sludge / grit?
 
I don't mind at all :) she was squeaking like mad when she went for a wee and was generally quite miserable, she had an xray done and thankfully it showed no stone, but grit/sludge so she had her kidneys/bladder flushed out, she is now home and doing really well :) still squeaking a little though, she is due another flush 4/5 weeks time :)
 
Yeah, she did, only a little though. I really hope Connie gets better soon :) Just curious, are you syringing her any extra water?
 
It will help flush her out if it is sludge/grit. I try and get at least 20/30ml into her a day, she absolutly hates the syringe so i use her water bottle, just put the end of the spout in her mouth so she chews on it and she'll drink at the same time, make sure you wrap her up so she doesn't struggle. you could also try giving her some celery and cucumber as its full of water. :)
 
Protein in the urine (proteinuria) can be caused by various things including dehydration and an urinary tract infection. If the blood trace has now disappeared I don't think you have anything to worry about. The extra water will help to dilute her urine, but you do need to get a moderate amount of sample to be properly tested to determine the exact cause of the proteinuria and haematuria. The Ph is normal though. I hope she's feeling better soon :)
 
I don't think protein causes discolouration - that would more likely be a sign of blood?
