I have a Skinny Pig (Hippo) and she has a white spot with a sort of scab on her haunch, I have been told it's fungal infection. I was thinking of waiting a bit to see if it spreads before starting to treat it, should I treat it right away? It doesn't seem to cause her irritation or anything but I certainly don't want it to start. I have also heard that you can use some things at home to treat the infection so I was considering using some anti- dandruff anti- fungal shampoo and put that on her haunch. Is that what I should do? If not, does she need immediate vet care?

Hi,

You are safer to take er to a vet to make sure she does actually have a fungal infection where the vet can then advise on the best treatment.

Skinny pigs do have sensitive skin but there is a number of things that can cause patches and scabs, even in hairy piggies.

Hopefully the vet can give you an answer, but please don't treat at home before then.

All the best
