Hi everyone,
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on feeding your piggies treats. In my opinion the natural treats are the best such as the woodlands range from P@H. I wouldn't feed my pigs treats with lots of sugar in ect. What does everyone else think?

i just look at them and think would I eat that? lol
Some of the woodlands range are good, they do herb mixes and thigns like that. I just avoid all those sugary weird things, nothing beneficial in them.

Yeah those woodlands herb mixes look yummy! (for the pigs not me! haha) nope nothing beneficial in sugary things all they do is make your piggies fat! haha!

I tend to feed those woodland treats ones as well. I stay away from fruit, yoghurt or chocolate drops.

Anything that looks 'unnatural' to me, I avoid feeding the pigs! Also I just use common sense, if it doesn't look suitable for animals, I don't buy it. To be honest the piggies don't get many treats. They get their evening veggies, dry food and plenty of hay and water. Occasionally I will buy some of the burgess hay to mix in with their normal hay to give them a bit of variety. I also regularly change round the toys in their cages and every so often I'll replace an older toy for a newer one.

The hay mixtures are good, I buy the small bags from Wilkos sometimes. The pigs don't get them often but I guess it's nice every now and again.

Yeah I like those hay mixtures too as they are very natural! To be honest mine very rarely get treats as I don't think they really need them although usually they get some for Christmas!

For treats it's usually fresh berries or a chunk of apple. They get so excited over every single piece of food or hay I'm sure they think they're constantly spoiled :D x)

i give my little piggy dandelion salad which i get from p@h i also make it myself. i would recommend using it and also you could save money and give your piggys fresh veggies and dandelion leaves.
p.s. the dandelion salad is really good for them and doesn't include lots of sugar

Ditto has the woodlands range he loves there dandelion feast mixed with his usual hay :-) .. He also enjoys the odd yogurt drop, i know alot of you probably wont agree with me feeding my piggy yogurt drops due to the high sugar but they are afterall a treat and are fed very sparingly, ditto loves them, and the odd one cant hurt him its like me having the odd mars bar it isnt going to make me fat or unhealthy if eaten in moderation.. Anyway I'm rattling lol he also loves his fresh fruit and veggies and grass and dandelion leaves, and fresh herbs such as parsley. His ultimate favourite treat is CUCUMBER oh my god he eats the stuff like theres no tomoroow lol x

Lil-Nin, the reason the more experienced members do not feed yoghurt drops to their guinea pigs is that guinea pigs are lactose intolerant so unable to process them properly.

I do have a bag of yogurt drops in the house, I confess. Picchu loved them and would get one every week or so. Machu will usually only nibble at half of one then leave it, so now that little Picchu is over the Bridge they'll probably get binned.

I do buy the commercial fruit and veg sticks from time to time (the ones you clip onto the side of a cage) as they love them and they don't seem awful to me. I especially like to get through little wheel-shaped ones; I put a bit of string through the middle and hang them from the ceiling of the cage to encourage play.

Other than those I'm probably going to stop most commercial treats altogether though. They can be so expensive, and it's so cute and fun to try making something for them, or easy to just set aside a piece of carrot for them whilst making tea! Commercial treats seem unnecessary then.
