Specialist TVGPR Girl Breeze Dying with Oedema

Breeze was born in April 2014 & has been in the rescue since the end of June this year. Her weight until last week fluctuated between 917g & 1022 with just steady rises and falls. Between 27th Oct & 3rd Nov she dropped 59g from 1010g to 951g which was worrying so I booked her in to see vet on the 6th. By this time she was down to 832g.

Her examination revealed that she had oedema and all her fluids had dropped to bottom of her body and top rib bones and spine were very noticeable. She'd always been bony which didn't seem to bother her at all. 2 days later and she's dropped to 694g. I fear she is going to die if we can't stop this severe weight lost. Her behavior is normal and she's not in pain, eating but drinking less than normal. She is currently prescribed Furosomide 1ml 3 times daily plus Prednicare (steroid) tablets 1/2 tab daily.

Can anyone advise a course of action to save her from dying which is surely going to happen if not sorted very quickly.
 
@Stewybus Lots of syringe feeding to keep her going.

Have you discussed with your vet about treating it like a heart issue? Fortekor and Vetmedin can help. Any idea what has caused it, as it infections can sometimes cause it.
 
The weight fluctuations are due to the fluid retention. The cause of the fluid build up could be heart failure or kidney problems. Supplementary syringe feeding is all l can suggest until the vets work out what's wrong. I hope she improves Stewart x

Thanks @Jaycey She's back at the vets at 10am tomorrow. I'm trying to get as many ideas to discuss with vet.

Thanks @pig in the city She's getting lots of supplementary feeding & eating all her regular veggies plus more. I just don't know where it's all going.
 
Poor breeze! It sounds like she's very poorly as normally by the time you are seeing this volume of fluid gathering, the initial cause is quite far advanced. Is the fluid gathering under the skin or collecting in her abdomen?you'll need find the initial cause by having her chest xrayed and her abdomen scanned. This will give them a rough idea of where to focus their attention if there's any enlargement of the heart or fluid in the lungs, or any abnormal looking liver or kidneys. Blood tests are also a good idea for liver and kidneys however the kidneys can often fail as a knock on effect of other organ failure.
I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and can offer her some treatment. It is good she is still up and about the little soul
