Some readers never look at the `breed` section so i have posted this question on the General Chat section.

Is there a chance there two distinct species of guinea pigs? I`m not talking about different colours or sizes here like Great Danes and Chawawas - they are both of the same species - namely the DOG species.

Just like the red and grey squirrel. Can there be two types of piggy? Though in this case its not about the colouring and size but face shape of the piggy which is the noticeable difference.

I`ve noticed there are two types of face shapes in guinea pigs. Those with a pointed face and those with a rounded face.

Has anyone noticed this variation?

Hiya, I don't know about much about genetics but Violet has got a very 'ratty' face whilst Poppy has a round face, Dillon (my sheltie) is sort of in the middle LOL the others all have round faces, I think Abyssinians generally have more pointed faces

Not sure how this post is going to go but I'd see, but edit if you need too mods if you feel it condones breeding too much

I know that breeders tend to breed piggies to have shorter faces? I know selfs tend to have the shorter faces likewise the crested varieties?

all mine have a round face aprt from lilly and poppy poppy takes after her morther lilly now amber looks like lilly alot in the face but has a round face the five boys and ruby look like their father max and meggie and holly have a round face too
