I've been looking on the internet at guinea pigs which need homes, it's so sad how many there are! I really want to save a little one and buy a cheap indoor cage to put in my bedroom. But the issue is are guinea pigs noisy at night? As i am a light sleeper and have to get up for school in the mornings. I already have two guinea pigs which live outside in there hutch.

Help?!@)

Mine are really noisy! i couldn't have them in my bedroom i'd end up throttling them rolleyes

Why don't you try having your existing pigs in your room with you for a night or two to see how much they disturb you? If you did it today, it wouldn't matter so much if they keep you awake as it is Sunday tomorrow?

I have my pig in my room with me at night and he can get quite noisy sometimes - particularly when he decides to start shredding newspaper!

Yes i tried that, i put them in a box for night, they were quiet till they both started shuffling around. But would one guinea pig on there own be any different?

:/

Guinea pigs should not be kept alone.
My previous guinea pigs made LOADS of noise! However the boar pair ive got now barely make any. This is partly because they are on fleece, so there is no russling of sawdust or newspaper, and my two get most of their liquid from veg so they dont use the bottle much. But piggies can be very noisy yes.

Some rescue guinea pigs have to kept alone though, as some come alone and are used to living that way

I have 7 in my bedroom and there can be a bit of noise but I like hearing them shuffle around and have a drink from their bottle. It might be disturbing to some people but I dont sleep well anyway so dont mind having something to listen to :))

:/

You are correct, SOME piggies are best of living alone in their cage, however this is usualy due to health problems (which can cost alot). MOST piggies can be found a friend using boar/sow dating, or neutering them to gain a mized sex pair. Guinea that really dont get along with others are usualy best living in a seperate cage, but right next door to other piggies so they are not alone. A truely lone guinea needs ALOT of attention from you to be happy (8 hours a day?)

Rodney would be in my room with me at night, and the only sounds I ever heard from him were the sounds of his little feet running around under my bed, and him jumping in and out of his cage for a drink/food/poop.

Once I got used to it he never kept me awake, and I found it comforting to have him in there with me. Meant if I woke up in the night and couldnt sleep, I could scoop him up for a cuddle :)

I've had all four of my guinea pigs in my room at one time or other.

The first two were quite quiet but you could hear them munching. I couldn't stop laughing at the noise. I found it hysterical and I have no idea why. o.O

My second two were VERY noisy at night time. They loved to run around just as I was climbing into bed. Luckily for me I can easily block sounds out and fall asleep so I had no problem with it.

Well as mine are going to have to come in with me whilst my "proper" (which they are in at the moment) bedroom is being decorated I think that you will be fine.

I'm a light sleeper, but do get used to normal noises very quickly, so, hopefully, I will naturally block out: water bottle rattles, pingings, jumps and the occasional squeak during the night inbreeding:)) over the next few weeks :{

They will then have their "own" room, but maybe I will get used to them that much they will just have to stay with me :))

Thank you for all your reply's enjoyed reading them :D I'm going to give myself more time to think about the situation, so i know the guinea pig would be happy! And yes i would have time to give it a lot of attention, whilst studying for GCSE and when i wake up in the mornings and watching tv in the evening! It would be with me all the time :) X
