I seem to remember someone recently ( sorry , can't find the thread and can't remember who it was now ) getting her piggle tested for thyroid problems. Was there any conclusion to this? I'm only asking because Yoshi seems to be gaining weight at a rather alarming rate now ( about 50g ) a week. He is becoming HUGE. He doesn't eat anymore than the other piggies ( and they are all healthy weights ) and I reduced his and Moonpig's nuggets ( that week was a while back and he lost a tiny bit that week but since then has gained ), they definitely aren't getting too much food so I'm wondering if it could be his thyroid. The vet saw them all last week and aside from commenting on him being fat didn't suggest anything and basically gave them a clean bill of health ( after probing their lumps - poor kids ). He really is starting to resemble a fluff covered football. :{

Sorry, forgot to say: he's 1500-1525g this week.@)

Hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid) would usually cause weight loss and increased food intake. And Hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) would be the opposite, weight gain and less food intake. I wouldnt specifically say your pig is showing symptoms of either. Is he well in himself otherwise? Does he eat plenty of pellets, this can cause overwieght piggies?

He doesn't seem to be stuffing himself full of pellets - I'd say Moonpig eats more and she's just right size-wise. I'm wondering if he's got hypothyroidism because I can't think of any obvious reason for this continual gain but it may just be me having thyroids on the brain ( I've got an overactive one!:{ ). Could there be any other reason for weight gain if it isn't under active thyroid or eating too much? He's maybe been a bit subdued since the vet poked about with his lump last week but I think that may just be that I've lost his trust a bit after that ( although he still enjoys a good back rub ). He's still able to move about at a good lick when he WANTS to ( which isn't often ) in spite of the big lump under his front arm pit.

Bless him. :( I really couldnt help anymore to be honest. It might just be you thinking about it, but if you are worried about him then sometimes a quick trip to the vet to discuss it with them maybe will put your mind at ease.
