I think my guinea pig is underweight, shes certainly skinny. This is quite stange because she eats plenty and isnt ill. Another confusing thing is that her cage mate is a good weight. Anybody know how i can get her to put some weight on? Any advice would be really helpful.

You should get him cehcked out by a vet.

Recovery food is good, or fruit smoothie.

Are you sure he doesn't have diarrhoea? Are his teeth OK? You need to get this checked.

She dosent have diarroea, and her teeth seem the right length she isnt as bad as she used to be she may just be taking a while to put on weight. Ill see what my vet thinks.

Has she lost weight or always been smaller? Age? What does she weigh? Does she get her fair share of food at meal times? (other pig doesn't stop her)?

Aww I'm sorry she seems underweight, a trip to the vet sounds like a good idea. Does she get along well with her cagemate? Maybe her cagemate is stopping her from eating?

Hope you find out whats wrong soon! xx

It's the back teeth I am concerned about. Get the vet to check them for malocclusion which stops them eating.

Thanks everyone for your advice, she seems to have put on a bit more weight in the last few days. I think shes ok now ive had a good look at her teeth all seem ok. shes certainly the boss of the cage and eats plenty, ill keep and eye on her but i dont think theres anything to worry about now.

I will, she has been getting some extra treats lately and its showing weight wise :)

I am really pleased your piggie is gaining weight. I think sometimes pigs go through phases of losing and gaining weight. (not massive amounts of weight though!)
