Unfinished furniture pine for indoor cage?

Just wondering if this would be safe? Seen some bits and pieces of shelving in IKEA that I thought might make a prettier/ sturdier indoor enclosure (for living in, not just a run). I know that is a lazy route to a wooden cage, but they come in neat sections and I have no carpentry skills! Was also thinking about chromed wire shelves and cable ties?
Any thoughts?

I used another kind of IKEA shelves to build my cage. The shelves smelled quite strongly of pine at first, which I've heard is bad for guinea pigs but they didn't smell at all after I painted the wood. Mine don't seem to chew on painted wood either so that's a bonus.

I thought about the wire shelves too but the ones I found were too pricey.

There's a picture of my cage in the cage gallery. It did involve a few power tools, but I would not exactly call myself skilled in the carpentry section... The good thing about using shelves is that it looks even and smooth, unlike what it would have looked like had I sawed everything out on my own...
