Unlimited Food or Not?

Ive had my piggies a week today and have been feeding them with unlimited hay, topping up their pellets throughout the day when its empty and a few pieces of veg a day e.g. pepper, carrot, cucumber...

Should you feed them unlimited pellets like i have?

I have one rather lazy piggy who doesnt seem to run around, and a very active one who is always darting about

i was thinkign about limiting the pellets, but I'm unsure how much they need for a day or how i will know if they havent enough and are hungry?

HELP! :o
 
It depends how old they are.. I gave mine unlimited when they were young but now they are older i only feed them one handful in the morning and that has to last them the until the next morning. :))
 
There is mixed views on this, some members dont feed dry food full stop, others limit the amount and some give unlimited, i feed unlimited, between 4 piggies they have 1 bowl which is topped up daily, more if needed, non of my piggies are overweight or unhealthy. xx
 
I give a small handful scattered in the hay morning and night, it roughly works out to what's advised on the packaging which off the top of my head I think is 25 grams (I use Burgess excell).
 
They are about 9 weeks old :)

I just fill it when its empty but I'm not sure if they're having too much, they have put weight on since ive had them i think but I'm not sure...

I'm scared to limit it and them be hungry all day, theres no way of telling when they're hungry is there?
 
upto a certain age they should have unlimited nuggets (Cant remember what this is though)

i feed 2 bowls between 6 and 1 bowl for a pair. and i top up at night. but its hardly ever empty.

if you read the bags it says 30-50g per piggy per day. mine dont eat that.

unlimited hay is a must. in the colder winter i'd be happy to feed more especially if outside piggies.

piggies are usually always hungry, this is why they graze on hay and nuggets throughout the day :)

My pigs tell me when they want food with a very loud 'wheek, wheek, wheek', they also do it in hope of getting more food even when they don't need it though. :))

So long as they have unlimited hay then they won't go hungry, it should have feeding guidelines on the packet.

They should be gaining weight as they are still growing, it's advised to weight them weekly though as weight loss is an indicator of illness.
 
Yeah they were loud this morning because their bowl was empty

So long as they have hay then they cant go hungry?

They always have hay so if thats the case i can stop worrying :)
