well Budd was at the vets today, and the vet said it doesnt look good :'( she had a listen to his chest and it was after doing this that she said it doesnt look good :'( she was very good though and I'm extremely greatful to Kate on here for recommending them.

the vet gave him three injections-one was rimadyl, the other was Duphatrim IS? anyone know what that is? she gave another too but not sure what that was. i really should have asked the vet all this but i was so upset by what she said that i wasnt thinking too well and just wanted to cuddle and kiss my baby :'(

she has also gave me 2 sachets of supreme recovery which i will start him on today-he will only need half a packet a day though wont he? on the supreme site it says one sachet would be for a 2.5kg bunny, so half a sachet should do? also, on the sachet it says that i need to supplement with additional vit C-how can i do this?

she has also gave me septrin Paed solution, and told me to give him 0.5mls a day-is that right? is there a chance this anti biotic will help?

I'm bringing him back on tuesday morning so she can see how hes doing and we can see what to do from there.

hes being such a good boy though-hes taken 20mls of water from me today and also took about 8mls of polyaid this morning. I'm hoping he will take the recovery just as well.

if there is anything else i can do for him please let me know. I'm going to make the second floor of their cage really comfy for him today-put towels and cuddle cups down for him and put some drops of olbas oil around to help with his breathing. as i said-if anyone thinks i can be doing anymore for him, or if there is anything else i can ask the vet for then please do let me know. i am not letting my boy go-hes only been in my life just over a year and i want him to stick around a good while yet! no way am i ready to see my boy leave me :'(

please keep your fingers crossed for him-you have all been a huge help so far. Thankyou again Deb for pointing me this way!

PS. i was wondering if there was anyway to give him a little clean up? i tried to give him a clean with some unfragrenced baby wipes last night so he might feel little more comfortable, and gave him a comb through-he has such bad dandruff because of not washing etc poor boy-dont want him to feel uncomfortable on top of everything else :'(

Re: Update on Budd!

thankyou for the replies-advice or no advice its nice to have the support so thankyou.

i have just gave poor Budd another clean-a better one this time. i pratically turned his butt inside out cleaning it for him! poor lad had quite a bit of poop and gunk and mucus in his bum so i had to get it out as that must have been awfully uncomfortable. he is now lying next to me on the bed curled up hiding his head under the towel bless him.

could i pick up some vit C tablets from somewhere like holland and barrett perhaps-would they be ok? or should i get pet specific ones? it sucks because i know ive seen vit C supplements especially for piggies somewhere on the net but cant for the life of me remember where! oh well-id have to wait for delivery etc anyway so not really a point as i need them now!

i was wondering-should i continue with the sudafed and garlic every day?

Re: Update on Budd!

Budd is about 3 1/2 years old now. i dont have a PAH near me so shall have to try a chemist or something first thing in the morning.

I'm afraid he really isnt doing well guys-its really scaring me :'( ive had him out on the bed for a while now and he just cant get comfortable at all. the only way he has gotten comfortable is when ive leant him in a way so that he is slightly upright-i know this helps ratties when they have resp problems so obviously it must help him too. but hes so much worse today :'( he seems so weak and keeps losing his balance. his wheezing is really bad today too. I'm so scared-i dont want to lose my boy. :'( :'(

Re: Update on Budd!

Thankyou for that Jo-i know what you mean. if he is suffering i know it would only be fair to let him go peacefully :'( but i will fight for him until that point-i will never give up on my boy.

i was wondering if someone could tell me how on earth I'm supposed to feed this supreme recovery?! it seems like its too thick to be sucked up in the syringe! anyone have any ideas? i really need to get something into him, he looks so bad :'(

Re: Update on Budd!

oh, i completely forgot to mention this! the vet looked at his teeth! she used some funny instrument that she put in his mouth then looked through-does that sound right? she said his back teeth looked a *little* long but there were no spurs etc so nothing to worry about. i cant believe i forgot to mention that!

Re: Update on Budd!

Budd passed away about 45 minutes ago :'( :'( :'( :'( I'm absolutely devestated-it just isnt fair at all. i only got to spend a year with my precious boy-i want him back so bad :'( :'(

we let Bill see him after he passed away so he knew why he wasnt around anymore, and he just went and lay down next to him to go asleep :'( :'( in the whole time we have had them, Bill and Budd never done this-they never really cuddled up to each other at all. it was so heartbreaking to watch and Bill looked so sad :'(

i just cant believe hes gone-i feel so numb right now. i just keep feeling like crying :'(

Oh no Belinda

I am so so so sorry to read that Budd has passed on.

No words can comfort you for your loss, and know how you feel right now. This is the worst part of pet ownership and its so devastating. I truly am so sorry and feel the pain you do right now.

RIP little Budd, you are going to be very missed. Run free with the others piggies.

I am so very sorry that you have lost darling Budd - I know you must be devastated.

Piggies are such fragile little things and hide illnesses so well that it can be impossible to get them well by the time that they start to show symptoms. You did everything you possibly could and more for Budd - he was so lucky to have found you to live out his days.

I am always here if you want to talk.
