Hi all,

I have seen an ad for 10 week old boys and I need to check if it would be ok to introduce one to my lonely boar (shy and laid back) Royston,

Can you advise please, I dont want to miss out!

I'm currentley washing the two hidey tunnels i have and I'm going to reclean the cage so its all nice and new for them both, - I'm hoping this is a good idea!

I havent phoned the guy yet so would appreciate any help...8;)

Many thanks,

Katie

do you have room to keep them seperate if it doesnt work out? if you do then go for it :))

The lady I just spoke to has said I can let Royston meet the little one to see if they get on, she has an unpaired boar called Boinky!

Advice?

I dont have another cage but id be able to sort one out if they didnt get on, if not I have the outside hutch and can insulate it up...;)

Sounds fine.
You will need to bond them on neutral territory, with nothing familiar to either of them. A run, the bath with towels in etc. Put in bits of veg for distractions. There will be lots of bum sniffing, humping, chattering, bum wiggling, but you will know pretty much immediately if there is any aggression. Put the baby in (th bath?) first, then add the big lad. Whilst this is going on, keep a close watch and have a towel ready to throw over them if they do fight, which hopefully they won't. The cage that they are going into needs to be really really thoroughly cleaned, so there is no smell for the older lad to recognise. Completely re arrange it so it no longer looks and feels like the older ones home. Anything wooden you need to replace as they hold smells. When you are happy that the two boys are ok with each other (I left the two I bonded yesterday in the pen for about an hour and a half playing) put the new pig back first, then the original one back immediately afterwards, and keep an eye on them for a little while as they explore and again decide who sleeps where. I never put two of everything in the cage except for hidey holes/beds just so they have somewhere warm each, but try to spread food around and don't just have one dish in a corner so one can hog it. Best of luck, it's not difficult bonding boars, just some ground rules to follow. x

Thanks Nutmeg,

I'm currently in the process of washing the soft toys n stuff, and I'm gonna disinfect later on and go get more veggie supplies, and soft woodchips,

It'l probably be tomorrow that I go and get the little chap so il have everything ready!

Way excited! :(|)
