Hello!

Not been on here for a long time and a lot has happened I lost my gigi who I miss and shortly after found a new family member called reggie. I have had him over a year and was already one when I got him. Recently now I have been in and out of vets waiting for a referral to help his dental issue which we found out were elongated roots. The vet filed his teeth down but he still will not eat or drink by himself. He is on painkiller, gut stimulants and antibiotic which he seems to be doing well on so touch wood this is fine! I just need some sort of answer on how a vet could possibly treat this consition? His weight is slowly dropping and I am syringe feeding him every 2-3 hours as much as he will take, so I am slowing it down and hopefully may stabalise it. He originally weighed 1.4kg now I am tryjng to keep him just over 1kg. I have tried a lot of food however he only seems to accept his supreme science critical care. Changed his bottle to a smaller nozzle with no luck he wont drink out if a bowl and I am running out of ideas. Have order two different excel foods to try with him soon. Any help is deeply appreciated!

I agree with Jacey, Simon has helped two of my piggies with dental issues. It’s 60 miles each way but well worth it. I took my first piggy to my local ‘cavy savy’ vet but was unsuccessful, it was then I heard about Simon and his team.

Please try and get him seen by Simon. He has more experience than any other vets, when dealing with dental issues in guinea pigs and works wonders with so many from all over the UK. TEAS would not exist without him, as we could not do what we do, without his knowledge and expertise.

Another recommendation for Simon or Kim Maddock here. If you travel by public transport I can ask my OH which bus he usually gets from the station.

Random thought - what antibiotic is he on? Baytril can destroy a piggy's appetite so it might be worth seeing if your vet can swap it for a different one!
Might be worth a try :) x

Another Simon Maddock fan here.He really is a remarkable vet and I travel to see him with my animals.
