Hello,

Took my piggy to vet a couple of days ago feeling that something just wasn't right with him but was given all clear. Now come home to find him like this. Does he need an urgent appointment tonight (vets now closed but have a 24hr service) or is tomorrow OK. Also is it his penis or anus prolapsed? Thank you, from a very stressed piggy owner!

The picture isn’t clear, but I absolutely agree that if you are concerned or suspect a prolapse then take him to the vet straight away

He's got an urgent appointment at 8:15 this eve. He's eating and moving around but I am concerned. I will definitely keep you posted x

Hoping your piggy is ok.
You have done the absolute right thing by getting him to the vets asap.
Let us know how he gets on and I am sending big hugs for both of you.

Hello all, thank you for the kind messages. When I put Arthur in his carrier go to the vets appointment the swelling/lump had actually gone down quite a bit! The vet was lovely, she wasn't sure exactly what had happened, but when she revealed his penis it had a build up of secretions on it which she said could of made it harder for it to retract back in but she wasn't sure why it had come out like that in the first place. She said to keep an eye on it and to check the penis for any build up and if it returns quickly then they will think about antibiotics. She did query bladder stones as well, though said she couldn't feel any. Fingers crossed it wont happen again and he will be ok. Thanks again for the support. X

Have you tried to GENTLY clean his little willy with luke warm water and a cotton bud? Occasionally I have to do this for one of my boars after he was left with a wonky willy following a huge abscess removal and he now has arthritis in his back meaning it is difficult for him to clean on his own. Here is a thread you may find interesting.

Hi betsy, thanks for the reply. The vet cleaned it tonight with a mild antiseptic solution and I will be keeping an eye on it and cleaning it as she showed me as needed. I will definitely check out that link thank you. :)
