Urgent help needed for baby gp age unknown.

Today whilst in town I went to check out a pet shop i had recently reported to the rspca. 1 to talk to the boss about my complaint and 2 to see if standards had improve. I ended up leaving with a baby gp as I happened to point out she was sharing a cage with a boy after handling both of the gps. The boss said oh well shell have to go back to the breeders i couldnt let this happen didnt want her to be bred from again and again so i took her home. Anyway this baby cant be more than a month ad had no water bottle in the shop or food (have re reported to RSPCA) I have provided these but so far she has touched nothing. I'm really worried now how long can they go with out food what can i give her to keep her hydrated etc.
 
Does she have somewhere to hide? If she does then pop some cucumber inside the hidey with her. Leave her alone in the quiet.

she has a full setup hidey hole etc and still wont touch anything left her all afternoon to see if shed eat in the peace and quiet no luck unfortunatly.
 
She might not be able to drink from a bottle, so try offering water in a small shallow dish. If you have access to grass then pick her some and sprinkle it with water.

It sounds like she's shell shocked to say the least. As you probably know, they need to eat pretty constantly to keep their guts moving. If she isn't eating at all she will fade fast. Have you weighed her?

Do you have any Critical Care (or you could mush up pellets with some warm water to grind it into a paste and try to feed her some sludge?)

No grass as still under a thick layer of snow shall try the pellets. Going to weigh her now in the kitchen scales.
 
She may be nibbling hay while you're not looking. She's probably terrified at the change. Is she with any other guineas?

Might be worth digging through some snow to find a bit of grass!

Yes definatly will if cant get to eat mush shes not in with the others at the moment as so small put her with my eldest sow for a bit but the litlle one seemed to shake even more. Just weighed her she just under 300g and hiding in my dress gown now. Never had a gp this timid before all mine have been very out going. Dont think she has had much human contact.
 
At 300g she could be anything from about 2 weeks to 5 or 6 weeks, it depends how many were in her litter and what care she had. To small to be in a pet shop though, in my opinion!

Anyway... like AP says, she'd be better with another pig and although not ideal as she's not been quarantined, if she's not eating then I'd probably risk it (and she's already been with her anyway!). She'll copy the other sow and settle down.

Shes currently trying to suckle on my neck. Gonna pop her in with chop chop and she how she does thanks guys. Was going to keep her quarintined but when she wouldnt eat thought oh well lets give it a try. Fingers crossed for little dopey.
 
dont think she is keeps suckling on me bless which i hope is a good sign she wants to eat dont thinks hes ever had vegetables or hay as none in pet shop.Thanks for the advice
 
AWW good for her! Great idea to put her with another sow.

Yes course I will shes so tiny whats a good amount of weight to gain weekly. Shall post som pigtures soon to hopefully

have you tried liquidising some veggies and syringe feeding her as she might think the end of the syringe is a teat? and take the food, obviously a little and often is good, while doing this wrap her in a cotton handikief or flannel so she feels warm and secure?

my hate of bad pet shops continues
 
A weekly weight gain of one ounce, 30gm., would be about average for a young pig.
 
So good to hear she's picking up. Fingers crossed she carries on eating!
 
I am glad that the wee one is eating. Good on you for rescuing her! How is she this morning?

Be careful when introducing veg that you do not upset her tummy with too much at once, as she's never had any.

However, with the example of a companion, I'm sure she'll learn quickly!
 
hi all mini pig is doing well gaining weight slowly but otherwise healthy thanks for all the messages
 
Hi guys more help need for this little girl. I thought she was eating her veggies but it turns out it was chop chop who was gobling them all. I have tried mushing them and hand feeding but the only food she will eat is dried food(wagg) or brown bread soaked in goats milk. I had to remove chop chop as i thought she had bitten the little one but little one has mites which are going to be treated along with all the others to be safe. I'm fuming to be honest cant believe such a young gp has mites must have got them in the pet shop or from the breeder. she nibbles small amounts of hay but veggies are so important any ideas on how to get her to eat them would be great Ill try anything!!
