Hi,

Have just cleaned out my 2 gp's and saw that Bill has a pinkish pale bloody discharge from his bottom. I'm guessing it could be a UTI or stones, but my question is - should I take him in to the emergency vet tonight or make an appointment for tomorrow? Don't want to leave it if you think he needs seeing tonight. Funnily enough I found a hard stone in his bedding tonight and I have no idea how it got there. Bladder stone maybe??

hey, hope your pig ok.

It sounds like it could be stones spesh if you found one, i would certainly make an appointment as soon as you can and get piggy checked over.

Sorry I missed this one last night - how is he this morning?

suzy x

Well, we checked him first thing this morning and he seemed fine. There was some blood on his hay but only little spots and none on or coming from Bill himself.
I have been at a school football tournament all day and my mum and dad have kept an eye on him. We are home now and he seems absolutely fine. There is no blood on the hay, on or coming from Bill.
So, what to do now? Should I wait and see or get him checked out anyway? HELP!

He may have been passing a small stone. I would book in Bill for an x-ray to make sure that he hasn't got anymore in his bladder or urethra. If you could get your vet to try and x-ray him without or with only very light anaesthetics, that would be great! You can do that for a time that is conventient for you and your parents.

Pink usually indicates blood, whereas orange or rusty discharge doesn't.

could you sit him in a clean plastic tube until he wees and suck the wee up with a syringe and take this the vets and ask them to dip stick it? that way the vets can see it there IS blood in his wee...

in boars they rarely pass stones as their urethra is very small... has he had any other signs ie, weight-loss especially on the back end? pain while passing wee or poop, straining? fluffed up? hunched up in his cage? looking depressed?

these are signs of stones and water infections...fluffed up and hunches is a sign of pain... which can be from any type of illness...

if the vet does think its stones he will need an x-ray and a contrast x

i would defo go for an xray, my late pepmeister had the slightest bit of blood in his pee that i found by accident but i never found any more, and then about a week later he started squeaking and sadly it all went downhill from there, but my point is....if maybe i had started investigations when i found the blood, maybe.................?/

sorry typo i meant TUB not tubemalletheadmalletheadmallethead:(|)

Hi guys, Just to update you. Bill has been fine for a few days but decided to get him checked out to be on the safe side. Have just heard from the vet that there are no bladder stones that she can see on the x-ray (done without anaesthetic!). Going to pick him up this afternoon. We are going to try and get a urine sample tomorrow which will be analysed. Have discussed possible treatments if it is a UTI and the vet is happy to prescribe Septrin (as long as I sign a consent form) along with probiotics. So hopefully all will be ok now. Thank you all for your advice. Fingers crossed for a full recovery.
