My pig Lenny has a suspected dislocated hip or leg fracture.

Are there any human medications that I can give to him, thought I read about calpol somewhere?

Also, what is the routine for XRays? I don't want them to GA him if possible, can they / do they towel wrap or anything?

Hi There -

Metacam is a good pain killer, did they not give you any at the vet's?

As for Xray's they can normally towel wrap or administer a whiff of gas to the sedate the pig depends on the vet practice.

Hope your piggy gets better soon, in the meantime maybe restrict it's movement by placing them in a smaller cage to give the leg time to heal.

Hi. Poor you. You must be so worried. I am only aware of Metacam/Loxicom, which is a pain reliever/anti inflammatory for animals. You could try contacting Suzygpr for advice. She has been really helpful when I have spoken to her.

Good luck. Bee x

My pigs, Big Dave and Cameo have both had xrays, and they both had conscious xrays - they just sat on the xray plate and didn't move!

Did the vet not give any pain relief? They should have! I would avoid human medications, and call the vet.

Not been to vets yet... in on the first appointment in the morning (only happened this evening).

Rang the emergency vet and they advised to wait until morning and restrict to a smaller cage until then so yes, he is in a carry box with water and food.

But, having searched the forum I've found the calpol dosage now. Thanks
