My gorgeous boy is not well.

I went in last night as I always do before I go to bed to have a wee chat with them and to top up their hay and I heard this rattling sound and thought it was one of the children. As I got to the cage I realised it was Sir David and then he coughed. I put the hay in and the rattling stopped but I know they can try and hide their symptoms. I went in this morning and he seemed normal. Interested in his food and my son who normally feeds them in he morning had not noticed anything different.

I have been sneaking upstairs and listening at the door and he has a definite rattle to his chest and I have heard him cough.

I gave him his favourite which is basil and he got pretty excited as he normally does and wolfed it down. I could really hear the rattle though as he was eating.

I have got an an appointment with the vet at 5pm.

Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime :(

Oh poor little baby. I do not think there is anything you can do apart from keep him warm. I hope it all goes okay at the vets. Good luck. Get better soon Sir david.

aww bless hun, I don't think there is much else you can do at the moment if he is eating and drinking well but it could be a respiratory infection I suppose

Fingers crossed for the vets. If it is URI, please ask for an initial dose of frusemide (diuretic) to help clear the lungs and ease the breathing.

Give extra vitamin C (you can dissolve 1/8 of a normal tablet in a little bit of water and syringe that for best effect). Also ask for or get some probiotics to help with the antibiotic.

Well Sir David has a respitatory tract infection which has got on his lungs. He has an antibiotic. Today I have not heard the rattle and he has been eating as usual. Fingers crossed he is on the mend. I know they are clever at hiding things but I just hope he will be okay.

glad to know you have got a diagnosis and he has some meds. Its a good sign that he is acting as normal and I'm sending lots of snuggles and chin rubs to Sir David in the hope he makes a quick recovery
