The remnants of (now downgraded) Hurricane Gonzalo will be travelling over the UK in the next 24hours starting from midnight tonight

Ignoring the hype in the newspapers....please be advised:

There will be high winds - particularly in the NW/Scotland with up to 80mph forecast However there will also be strong winds across most of England too..which are forecast from about 4am onwards at up to 60mph.

Although winds are the main concern, there may be heavy rain in some places which can cause some surface water flooding

Please ensure your outdoor hutches, garden furniture, wheelie bins etc etc are secure.
Please keep an eye on large "in-leaf" trees at risk of falling...and most importantly please be careful if you are travelling on the roads over the next 24hours.

Prevention is better than cure....stay safe everyone.

Thanks for the sound advice.

Thank you Pebble :) Will look forward to watching the neighbourhood recycling boxes whizzing about!

Lol I literally just posted a thread like this! Feel free to delete mine. XD

Edit: Yours is more informative anyway, thanks for warning us. :)

Ahh >.< heard about this. Hopefully its not super bad. They forecasted a hurricane last week too but we just got some wind, not bad at all. Thankyou for the warning :) x

I haven't got a choice, I'm on patrol in it from 6 in the morning, driving to work at 5am!

It is almost exactly the same time of year as the one last year, I used to have to cycle to work. Fortunately Derby missed the worse of it last year.

Stay safe!

I don't need to cycle this year.

Watch those curtain sider trailers with no loads.
This is what happened on my patch in the last strong winds we had!

I used to work for a HGV co, on the maintenance control desk, this was the worse time of year. Along with SatNav sending lorries under low bridges, there was never a dull moment!

ahh, this time last year it just missed around me too, its was awful at other places not too far away :( Treacle, i actually don't live too far from you actually, i think i know which time of strong winds you mean xx

In case anyone is confused.......I think I should point out that I do not take into account ANY type of media hype from the daily rags when I post ANY weather warnings on this forum...

I rely on several groups of dedicated and experienced meteorologists/forecasters who provide informed and accurate analysis/timings for each region and can thus provide more detailed information for specific areas than even the Met Office "blanket warnings" can. Once there is agreement on severity (or otherwise) I then choose to post to alert the relevent regions on this forum regarding the care of their outdoor pets....(and also themselves)

@BossHogg .... please be careful....you are in the worst target areas for wind speeds during your shift tomoz (but I think you know that!)
Windspeeds have been upgraded successively over the last two days across the country...and there could be a further one or two upgrades on wind speeds from MetO in the next 12hrs depending upon how this weather system eventually tracks across the UK

Personally I have just postponed Carson guinea pig's operation with Simon in N'ton tomorrow for an abcess because I am not prepared to risk both our lives trying to drive the M25/M1 in morning rush hour with the inclement weather forecast and knowing (from experience) the number of idiot drivers on the road who have no idea how to drive in these types of conditions.

x.

Cheers Pebble, we get our weather alerts direct from the Met Office with us being a Government agency. ;)

Last year, The weather alert was taken off Derby at 7.30 am on the Monday. It was half term week. The winds seem to be higher up the country this year. But a friend of mine moved to the north Cornish coast that week, last year, she had the worse winter ever!

Hi Boss

Word on the street is that this "storm" is
a) not dying quick enough to agree with current official forecasts
b) centre of low shifting further south with each successive model/fax chart prediction...
c) possible potential for E Coast tidal storm surges that have not even been mentioned to date!

I think the (recently upgraded) MetO wind speeds for your area (ie from the oriignal 60 to now 80mph gusts) are more reflective of current models...but that there may be upgrades to south Engalnd (and also to tidal East England) over the next 12 hours

Stay safe Hun...As a dedicated and well-travelled motorist over many years......I'm grateful for the job you guys do and the risks you have to take.
x

I'll make sure I have enough to "survive" out in the weather for sustained times. Normally anything up to 4 hours outside with a "blow over"

Thanks @Pebble, your weather warnings are always very greatfully recieved. My gpigs are all indoors anyway but I do make sure that the ponies and the cat are safely tucked up inside too :-)

I don't know about you guys but the rain here is ridiculous and the wind, I'm just glad i have a day off today although my sisters away so I'm going to have to walk there to feed her cat later!

Wow it's windy where I live, but not as severe as some other parts of the UK. I can hear leaves flying around outside and hitting the front door and the windows.

I was up most of the night listening to it, worrying about my poor bunnies outside :( they had extra bedding for warmth and are placed in an area where will miss most of the wind.

But it's still terrifying when the winds sound as bad as that!

Aww don't worry, bunnies burrow and cuddle eachother to keep warm. Bunnies even love playing in the snow! So don't worry, they're very hardy creatures, more so than piggies. :)
