Went in to check the pigs and I heard a soft snuffly hooting sound, quickly I found out who it was coming from - Lottie. She was sleeping whilst making this sound and I was able to pick her up, she was a little limp but that could've been because she was sleeping, we had cuddles for 5 minutes and she quickly perked up, acting normally, bright and alert again, wanting to play, but I noticed the inside of her nostrils looked wet. Eyes are bright and clear, no discharge, no discharge coming out of the nose, just a wet watery liquid sitting inside the nostrils, eating and drinking normally, pooping normally, was popcorning like crazy at clean out time tonight. Can't hear or feel any crackling in the lungs/chest. I noticed a few days ago that her eyelids were more red than usual, and today her ears are also red and hot to touch, so I'm worried she may have a URI brewing. She also seems to have excess wax in her ears so I was going to take her to the vet anyway to have them looked at and cleaned, hopefully they can give me an appointment tomorrow!

I do have another piggy that seems to have allergies, sometimes she looks a bit puffy around the eyes, watery fluid inside nostrils, crackly breathing and her nasal sounds are much louder and very snuffly, she has been like this for about 8 months now and no URI has come up, so we think she does have allergies, which has improved since I started making changes with hay and washing powder, she still gets like this sometimes though but not nearly as bad or as often as it was before. Lottie has just come up like this suddenly, she has had this before but this was after a bath, she caught a URI afterwards, so I'm concerned it is a URI but I'd be much happier with allergies...!

All the best. Hopefully it is just a little obstruction/irritation in the nose which goes away with a vigorous sneeze when the irritation (like some pollen or hay dust) is sneezed out.

Obstructions to the already narrow airways are always more noticeable during sleeping or eating. Hooting is generally a sign of a slightly stuffy nose.

Please note that guinea pigs regulate the body temperature via the blood flow through the ears; they don't have sweat glands to do the job like we humans or pant like dogs. Your girl is simply feeling a bit hot and is ventilating.

I know I just worried that her temperature was from an infection, I really hope it's not a URI, I'm such a nervous nancy when it comes to my pigs!

The way I find out if fudge is just hooting from dust up her nose (she sleeps in the hay ALL the time) or if it's due to her heart problem, I gentle wipe her face with a damp cloth (which she loves btw!) but it makes her then clean her own face afterwards...

This makes her snort and snuffle when she cleans her nose with her feet.. Which is effectively like getting her to blow her own nose!

9/10 there's never any sound after she's done that :-)
