The dreaded URI has come around again. We have her on a diuretic but going to the vets in the morning to get antibiotic. I was wondering if people had a preferred antibiotic in this situation. I'm not able to make it to my trusted guinea pig vet, so I'll be at the mercy of a non specialised cats and dogs vet. Any thoughts? Septrin..baytril?

Baytril is generally the default antibiotic for URIs, but if your piggy has a story of reacting badly to it, the new unflavoured adult strength vet version of septrin (which is called sulfatrim), has now been licensed for exotic pets - including guinea pigs.

All the best for a quick recovery!

Mine have been treated with both Baytril and Sulfatrim for respiratory infections. Either of those would probably be a good starting point. Hope your pig feels better soon!

Thanks both. Sadly we lost Tulsi in the night.
