Title went into lower case when I hit 'post'! It should say URIs not Uris.

Jaffa has seen my vet tonight and has just started a 10 day course of Septrin for an upper respiratory tract infection. Simon described it as a sort of 'cold' as it's all very nasal rather than any further down on the chest.

I forgot to ask Simon if Jaffa's ladies were at risk of contracting the same infection or whether it tends to stay with the infected pig. Does anyone have any experience they could pass on? If not, I'll phone Simon in the morning.

URIs can be infectious especially with guinea pigs with lowered immune system through stress, illness or old age. Healthy guinea pigs can usually fend it off. If you have any fragile piggies I would separate and keep Jaffa in a different room (quarantine rules).

I agree if any of mine go down I only separate off any elderly or weaker piggies. As soon as we see the symptoms it could have been passed on anyway. So I tend to.leave the poorly pig in situ, try and build immunity up.
