My piggy Clover has had ongoing slight blood loss over the last 2 weeks. I took her to the vet when it first appeared and he gave her a good feel and concluded that she isn't in pain - no squeaking at all on being felt! It's definitely uterine - I've had pigs with blood in the urine before and this is different. She's eating well, trotting around as usual and appears in good spirits. Ideas or suggestions would be really helpful, thanks.

How old is Clover ? :)
Is there a possibility that she could of been pregnant ? :)

Hope shes ok :-\

If this were my pig,I would have a scan done to see what is going on.There could be a tumour which is bleeding, this could possibly be removed.Would depend of course whether it is malignant or not,and the age and general condition of the sow.

Clover is 2 and a half and definitely not pregnant - unless her little friend Daisy isn't telling me something! Yes, a scan would be a good idea -thanks. I'd like to avoid having her spayed if at all possible.

I too am against spaying, but I do know of some sows who have had this surgery for medical reasons and they have been fine. They would have died anyway without the surgery.

yeah having a scan's a good idea O0 (((hugs)) hoping you get your little one sorted :smitten: :smitten:

If spaying is necessary to mend Clover I'm fine with that too. You would think a piggy with some blood loss (albeit only a bit) would be even slightly miserable, but not my Clover! She and Daisy are dashing around the lounge as I speak/type. Her appetite is fine and she shows no sign of being in pain even when gently prodded.

glad she doesn't seem to be too bothered by it, thats a good sign :smitten:

welcome to the forums from me and the girls from oz. :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-* :smitten: my zoe was losing blood down there and after a lot of mucking around by the aussie vets and thanks to maryh and her vet zoe had an ultrasound and then surgery to have her reproductive organs removed as her ovaries for cystic and she had a 20grams mass growing on the outside of her uterus. now she is going through a piggy menopause and having soft poops. so am really hoping clover gets better, zoe though a bit quiet was eating running around etc. good luck and welcome. :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-* :smitten:

Thanks very much for the welcome and advice. :) Great to be in contact with other piggy lovers!
I'll keep you posted on Clover.

any news? :-\ hoping your little one has turned the corner and you've got to the bottom of it :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: ((hugs and piggie kisses)) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-*

Thanks for all the advice and good wishes for Clover :smitten: I spoke to the vet (good chap, head of small animals in a big practice, his surgery is at the end of my road!) earlier in the week - he was planning to operate on another piggy for exactly the same symptoms so basically said 'wait and see'. Op was yesterday, piggy ok so far :) but had a tumour the size of a cherry tomato! Eek! Just like Clover in that she was eating well and happy before. Vet couldn't feel lump because of where it was. I suggested a scan and he was happy to do it but said in his experience it can be quite hard to disitinguish details clearly because of all the gut. His advice is to think it over for the weekend, but prob better to go ahead and operate before trouble starts.
So...that's where we are!

Thanks again for welcomes and concern.

I have a piggie called Clover too :) Hope whatever you decide she feels better soon and the bleeding ceases.

good luck with your decision, our zoe had a scan before surgery as surgery can be very stressful for guinea pigs and zoe's mass showed up on the scan. sending you hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send :-* :-* :-* spend time with clover, look into her eyes and then look in to your heart and hopefully the answer will come to you. know even though we are thosuands of miles apart we are thinking of you and clover. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

awwww good luck, keep us posted i hope it goes well :-* :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: ((hugs)) :smitten: :smitten:

I think I'm going to go for the surgery while she's still well as she stands a better chance of recovering ok. Lots of TLC will be provided!

I've bought her and Daisy some vetbed to snuggle on :)

awwwwww let us know how it goes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
(((hugs and piggie kisses to you and your piggies ))) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

wishing clover luck with the surgery :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hoping all goes well, sending hugs, cuddles, prayers and good vibes your way :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send :-* :-* :-* please keep us posted. good luck clover girl! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Clover had her op today - the vet has just called to say she's ok (so far) :) and the nurse will call when she thinks Clover is ready to come home. Good thing we went ahead as the vet found a tumour in the uterus. I've got some nice new vetbed for her to lie on and lots of tasty treats. Got curly kale in my veg box today - great timing. Hope it takes the taste of all the meds away!

Can't wait to get her home for TLC. Is it ok to put her straight back in with Daisy?

Glad she got through the op ok and hope she's soon on the mend.

I don't know about putting her back with the other piggy - she might prefer some peace and quiet, or she might pine for her friend - see how she is when you pick her up and see what the vet recommends.

Good luck with her!

sounds the same as what zoe had, when we picked zoe up 3 hours after the surgery we kept her in a cat carrier cage for a week on her own. to limit movement. first 2 days she had a hot water bottle to keep her warm. we fed her in the cat carrier and changed the towels every few hours. then after a week we put her in her cage with jessie but a divider between them as zoe was having soft poops and was on a bland diet. so glad clover got through the surgery, try to pick up as less as possible for first 24-48 hours as the poor little mite will be in a lot of pain. good luck, hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* now 2 months later zoe's hair has grown back, scar has healed apart from small hole where stitch was knotted. you wouldn't know she had had surgery. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

awww bless her glad she's doing ok :smitten: :smitten: hope she continues to be fine and that she makes a swift recovery :smitten:
never had excperience with this but choloe has a lot! :smitten:

Clover is home :) She looked so traumatised when I collected her, poor little thing. I gave her a bit of Critical Care before putting her in the cage and tried her with a tiny bit of cucumber - she had a couple of bits then helped herself to the rest of the slice! Back in her cage she had a nibble or two of kale and timothy hay before settling down. Good sign, I hope.

I've put her straight back in with Daisy - vet said they should be ok. they're snuggled together at the moment. I hope I've done the right thing!

Forgot to say(sorry!) - thanks for all the good wishes.

So glad Zoe's better. Makes me hopeful for Clover!

awww glad she's doing ok :smitten: how's she this morning? ((HUGS)) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

hoping clover is feeling better today and has her appetite back. it will take a few days before she is not sore :'( :'( :'( so just becareful how you pick her up. sending you and clover and daisy hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* to you all. get well soon clover :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Clover's doing well so far :) feeling well enough to try her hardest to avoid the syringe containing critical care/baytril/avipro/metacam (not all at once!) She's tucking into cucumber, carrot, hay etc and has enjoyed supaguinea excel broken into little pieces by yours truly. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: bless her. She wanted to come out and play too but I've put her on strict bed rest for the next few days.

awww bless glad she's not to bad :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sounds like you're doing a brill job matron! ;D :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: good old mummy! :smitten: ((hugs))) keep us posted :smitten:
