I have 2 new piggy's. I read online what you can and can't feed them. No matter what fresh veggie I put in the cage they dig through it and only eat the red bell pepper!

I am not sure what to do.

Sorry, ignore the post above, I didn't read your question properly. @)

Try giving them more of a variety of veggies. Have you tried apple, grapes, romaine lettuce, carrot, strawberry, kiwi, beet root? Thats just the tip of the iceberg. There has to more they like.:))

funny, mine eat just about anything, but they DON'T like red pepper or cucumber and a close third least favorite is carrots! Seems to be the opposite of most people's piggies. Mine also don't like oranges. Apples are OK, but not their favorite.

What mine really like? Fresh mint and oregano (I have an herb garden), any type of green or red leaf lettuce, cilantro, celery leaves...so basically mine really go for the green stuff.

I've had a similar problem with some of my piggies, trying to figure out what they like but now i've had a good try with different things and found Bentley and Chester hate carrots apple and orange, and Marmite is really fussy with the colour of his pepper and doesn't like broccoli , Eddie and Ollie just eat pretty much everything but they're greedy pigs !

A few of my pigs favorites are ...

Celery
Romaine Lettuce
Cucumber
Bell Pepper

Dont worry you'll find a combination your piggies like soon ! just keep trying new things (: they're really fussy animals, some of my pigs will eat a veg one day but not the next !

Ours took a while to get used to new food, they would only eat carrots for quite a while as I think that was mainly what they were used to, try perservering offereing them a variety of difffernt food, ours now eat most things.

I offer my piggies a variety of veg and they all have their favourites. :)) Green beans are a hit with most of them and cucumber. I have one piggy who always goes for the red pepper first so I put a little extra in his dish because he loves it so much! Don't tell the others though! :x

If they've not been given much fruit & veg it might take a while for them to start enjoying them. Keep offering a wide selection and they'll start to find things they like. Give them food in different ways too, some grated, some chopped etc. Good luck. :))

Fussy!

Have you tried dandelion leaves? I've had some incredibly fussy pigs in the past, but they all seem to love these! Keep trying them on things and don't be discouraged. It can be a bit like feeding a toddler...

Thanks again for this thread and discussing this topic again. Mine are really fussy (only apples, carrots, cauliflower, beetroot)and got even worse, they used to love beetroot and now decided they do not want that either. I tried so many different things and like you, became worried they may not be getting a varied enough diet, they don't like a lot of treats either rolleyes But this list gives me some more ideas I didn't think of or wasnt sure, like Parsley or Mint, they adore hay and anything green so that is worth trying! So thanks a lot!:)

I got some dandelion leaves from my Dad this afternoon - he leaves them deliberately in his garden until I come up and pick them for the piggies. Flower had them for the first time.......and they were gone really quickly.
