Hi!
I’ve seen a lot of people say they give their guinea pigs pellets and that muesli isn’t great for guinea pigs.. Any opinions?
I give my two guinea pigs some pets at home muesli (again any opinions?!) and I always make sure that’s full, then I give some veggies throughout the day and obviously unlimited hay. I just want to see what others do and see if this is ok for my piggies or if I should change something.
Thanks!

Please refer to this guide: Pellets Or Muesli / Dry Mix?
Please stay away from feeding muesli to guinea pigs.
I use Oxbow brand pellets (each piglet gets a 1/2 tablespoon in the morning, and a 1/2 tablespoon at night).
Please refer to this guide, as well: Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets
Pellets are the "junk food" of the guinea pig world, and should not be fed in large quantities. 80% of a piggy's diet consists of hay. :)
I hope that this helps! :)

As I don’t think muesli is the best option anymore, would anyone recommend only giving them veggies and hay or should I provide them with some pellets each day too?
Thanks

Some people choose not to feed pellets, some choose to feed them as treats, but (I think) that most people feed them as part of their piglet's diet.
I give my guinea pigs a tablespoon of pellets each, every day.
Please do read the Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets.
I know that some owners simply feed added veggies in lieu of pellets.
I hope that this helps!

In order to go with a pellet-free diet, I strongly suggest being able to access a wide array of vegetables so you don't miss out on any nutrients. If you don't think you'd be able to feed many types of veg I would suggest using pellets.

If it were me I'd choose pellets either way so I know my gp is getting the correct amount of nutrients but it's up to you. :)

Ok thank you!

My piggies have a tablespoon per piggy per day of Science Selective Grain Free Nuggets, 24/7 access to hay and selection of veg in the evening.

If you are a beginner I wouldn't go with a pellet free diet. Just follow the diet guide linked above which has been complied based on the experience of many knowledgeable guinea pig experts. That it what we do and our guineas are in good health 😊

I don't give pellets but give lots of hay and lots of grass and a good variety of vegetables, at least 6 varieties daily, 3 leafy and 3 non leafy veg. I have a vegetable garden so that helps. I try to give some outdoor time too for Vitamin D.
