hi i’ve looked at the forums posts on veg but i’d like some conformation that what i feed is okay. i have 3 pigs and i feed:
-half of a bell pepper
-4 or 5 leaves of escarole
-half of a mini romaine (they are about the size of a belgian endive.
-half of a belgian endive
-a few sprigs of parsley coriander or basil
-carrot (only once or twice a week)
-a stick of celery
-10-15 slices of cucumber
-banana or apple once every 2 weeks
-and one homemade treat per pig per day. (pellets, banana, carrot and water)
is this okay?

I copy the sample plate in the link below and make enough portions per piggy.

Be careful with parsley - it is high in calcium so shouldn’t be fed regularly.
I’d personally also reduce the amount of carrot - it should be considered as a treat due to its high sugar levels. I only give it to mine about once a month.

Again, with the homemade treats, if they contain banana and carrot, then that is high in sugar. Depending on the size of them, then I’d feed them a lot less frequently than once a day. Particularly if they are given pellets in a bowl as well.

Don’t forget hay needs to make up the biggest amount of their diet and veggies should be kept in a very low amount.

i give them unlimited timothy hay in racks and meadow hay on the floor. they get 2 tablespoons of pellets devided by the 3 pigs so they each get less than a tablespoon. the treats are very small (:

Careful with celery, the little stringy things that come off them can choke guinea pigs. Otherwise, that looks fine, as long as they also get hay and water and pellets. Definitely don't feed them too many fruits, since fruit can be acidic.

i chop them into pieces and as i already said i only feed fruit once a week

i also feed cauliflower leaves. i forgot to mention.

one of my pigs got bloated earlier today. i separates him. eventually he pooped so his guts are working. he’s not getting veg for the moment

Give him more timothy hay. The fiber will help get his digestive system back in order.

what is the best diet to start feeding him again when i get back from being on holiday? hess getting veg where he is but not much just lettuce, endive and pepper. i’m worried about what i’ll start feeding him because he was bloated

I'd start with hay and some sort of vitamin c supplement, and then when his stomach feels better, you can start feeding veggies again.

Stick with the ones he’s getting now, then slowly introduce other veg. I’d suggest you also introduce coriander. That and pepper are a good source of vitamin c, no need for a supplement.

:agr: With siikibam
Definitely stick with the ones he is getting now and then slowly introduce others. Herbs are often good things to start with when introducing veg back. Definitely take it slowly though.
I also agree, there is no need for vitamin supplements - piggies get a lot of their vit c needs from hay/grass (hay/grass containing Vit c is the whole reason piggies don’t need to make their own), with their veggie intake making up the rest.
