is it ok for uinea pis to live solely on fruit and veg cos mine wont eat their pellets they get about 2 dinner size plates of mixed fruit and veg between them each day..i have 2 pigs one still eats his pellets but the other doesnt. is this ok

Pellets are the least important part of their diet- make up around 5%, are they eating lots of hay and grass? as this makes up around 80% of their diet :)

Fruit shouldnt be given daily and its important to give them varied veggies :)

I`d back that up. Remember hay (dried grass) is better than straw because its more nutritious. It should always be available because piggies are natural grazers - meaning they want to eat just about 24/7 like sheep. Its needed to keep their teeth trim otherwise they grow long and twisted leading to surgery.

I forgot to add that fruit can give them mouth sores and ulcers because its too acid. I only give a grape or two as a treat. I`m not sure about banana. Best check it out for yourself. Mine like banana but don't get it every day.

banana should only be given in small quantities, i think it can cause constipation ? ?

Yes, give hay, hay & more hay. Straw is too hard and can poke their eyes. Its much less nutritious too.

They cant have enough. Piggies are all day grazers and need to eat hay all day long to keep their guts moving and to grind their teeth down.

They need loads of fresh water too.

Anders :)
