On saying good morning to the pigs, I noticed Daisy has had some very soft poos! Her little bottom is a mess so she'll be having a bum bath when I finish work.
Nothing in her diet has changed except some new nuggets. .. But she doesn't get many nuggets anyway?
She seems OK in herself, weight is stable, perhaps a little quiet. She's an old girl, perhaps around 5 years old.
I'll remove the nuggets and no more veggies for a couple of days, but I'm a bit worried as she's only a very slender girl.
I'm also concerned she won't be getting the vitamin c she needs without her veggies.
Any ideas? If there's no improvement over the next couple of days she'll be fof to the vets.

I’m sorry to hear this.

Did you switch over to the new nuggets slowly and gradually over the course of a week or two?

You don’t need to worry about the vit c for a few days - she will be fine.

I would switch to daily weight checks so you can ensure she is still eating enough hay.

Hi

Would you additionally try some poo soup from a healthy piggy not on antibiotics to help stabilise her guts? About 3 ml of the water in which very freshly dropped poos have been soaked shortly 2-3 times a day - the quicker you are, the more healthy microbiome will reach the gut - and incidentally also a little vitamin C.
Ideally you use the poos from a piggy that is on the new sort of pellets so she gets help with the digestive side of that.

Older piggies - as well as some younger ones - can sometimes be more iffy when dealing with new foods as their microbiome is no longer quite as flexible and fast to grow the ideal digestive bacteria. :(

Piggies don't develop scurvy in just a very few days.

Thank you for the ideas guys.
@Piggies&buns unfortunately I didn't realise we were totally out of nuggets, and they didn't have her normal ones in the shop. So we just gave her a few in her bowl to see if she liked them.

@Wiebke yep we've got lots of piggies pooping away so no problem making poo soup!

Daily weight checks starting tonight post bum bath.

Poor kiddo 😔

Aaaand she's got diarrhoea again. She looks quite unhappy so I think she might need a vet visit tomorrow. Perks of having a sister who works at a vets eh? At least we get a discount 😂
@YvonneBlue this is where your kind donation will be going ☺️

Poo soup is brewing... Orlando looked at me like I'd lost my mind furkling through for fresh poops 😂

Best put him somewhere on a chair with something to eat and you get a nice dump of the freshest within 5-10 minutes - ideal for just bathing in a very little water (just a few ml) for 1-2 minutes and then syringing straight into the mouth of the affected piggy in order to ensure that it arrives with gut microbiome still alive. About 3 ml of the solution per session.

It got to the point that I could only feed cucumber and pepper to Camowen because any other fresh food (including lettuce) would result in soft poop, mostly unformed. I never had him at the vet with it because a day or two on only hay would fix it (and make both of them grumpy, but needs must).

Nothing useful really to add, just that I know how much of a pain it is finding what foods are getting them off. I got lucky in that it was most of them.
