Very Worried About Guinea Pigs!

Hi.

Just to fill you in on what has happened I got home and found that one of my three boars (dexter) has blood running out of both nostrils. I rushed him down to the vets and was seen by the head vet. It turns out dexter has wounds to his nose and also a very deep split on his lip. He also has bruising to his lips he has also given some antibiotics as a
precaution. Upon getting home I inspected the cage more to find there is some blood around the cage walls. I checked over my other two boars one is fine and the other has one very swollen toe on his back foot. The blood is mostly in the top section of the cage. I am wondering if they were maybe jumping around up there and he has caught his claw in Dexters lip and caused him injury.
 
Just wondering if anyone can advise on what to do about my other guinea pigs toe. I dont think dougie meant to hurt dexter. Dexter is the dominant boar and they all seem fine together at present. They have never drawn blood on one another and have lived in harmony for a long time now. If anyone can offer advice it would bemuch appreciated thanks.
 
It could have been a fight. Three boys together rarely work. I would separate him until he is well and find him his own friend.
 
Oh dear, sorry to hear this. Think they must have been fighting. As is frequently said on here boar trios often fail as they fight for dominance. Have you separated Dexter from the others ?
 
I would recommend to keep Dexter separate until he is healed. You can stage a trial introduction on neutral ground to see whether they are going back together if it was a fight, but usually after one with bloody bites to the face or rump, they won't. Subadult boar trios have unfortunately around a 90% fall-out rate while they are going through the big hormones between 4-14 months of age; we are not happy at all with the new policy of pet shops to push the sale of baby boar trios.

How big is your hutch anyway?

I would have the swollen toe seen by your vet to make sure that it is a break rather than an infection.
