Hi all, is this advice really true? I know diarrhoea is common with antibiotics and he's on cotrim 0.8 twice a day for a dental abcess. I've been told the prognosis is not good and it would seem a shame then to take away the main pleasure in his life - veggies and grass : (

I've never come across that before. Usually it's best to keep them eating as much as possible whilst on antibiotics as the antibiotics very easily upset the hind gut microbial balance. I have normally only removed veggies if they do get softer poops.

Though I'm not a veterinary professional, and it is best to follow the advice of your vet. Perhaps ring them to check if you are unsure?

Thanks @furryfriends (TEAS) and @Betsy . The vet didn't mention probiotics but I knew about the importance of giving them from this forum and other places, so I will give this an hour either before or after each dose.

I've had many pigs on antibiotics and have never restricted specific foods (although some did react to the antibiotics by going off foods, suddenly deciding they wanted to eat non-food items like my walls, etc.) Antibiotics can lead to diarrhea, in which case it would be correct to remove watery foods like veggies, but this isn't universal and personally I would wait to see if it's a problem before removing things that he may be interested in eating.
