I got my GPs from rescue recently, the youngest had a bottom tooth that was over long and growing crooked.I went to the vets for the first time and the Vet advised that be would need to give her anaesthetic and cut her teeth down. He told me that it would cost me £80 if it was just the front teeth but if the back teeth needed work it would be £150 at the very most. He asked me to pay a £100 deposit but advised I'd be refunded if it was the lower end of the estimate. When I went to collect her a vet nurse told me that luckily her back teeth were fine and just her two front teeth had needed work.I thought great only £80 then. However this nurse who was in initial consult told me that it was £170. I queried this but she told me that the estimate I'd been given was for £150-200. I said the most I'd been told I'd pay was £150, she said it must have been the meds. The invoice showed the main cost had been £84 for anaesthetic, £37.50 initial consultation and £44 dental work, the meds just a few pounds. Does the charge for aneasthetic see excessive. Have other people been estimated one figure but then been charged far more. Are these vet fees high?
