Took Molly to the vet today, she has missing fur both sides & it is spreading to her head. The vet thinks it is alopecia her skin is fine, so it's not mange mites.
I also took her to see if she has ovarian cysts.
It's worse than that she has a large mass in her abdomen. They could try to remove it but he wasn't hopeful.
How could I have missed that?
He said to take her home, & when she stops eating & drinking or feels unwell.
To take her to the vet to have her PTS.
We have such a close bond, I am devastated@Wiebke

Am sorry it is not better news. Some lumps are hard to spot as they are under the surface. Has the vet given any pain relief?

Oh thats so sad. Is it worth getting a second opinion? I use a great vets in Tilehurst (not too far from you), Sally Ward there is great with Guinea pigs and looked after loads of mine over the years.
Here are their details: Active Vetcare - Tilehurst Practice
It may just be worth it just to be 100% as not all vets are great in understanding the complexities of guineas.

I agree, my Amy has a lump under her chin which my vets won't touch but Simon Maddock would prefer to remove it as it is attached deep down so it will be done in the new year. Worth a second opinion if your vet is not that piggy savvy.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Have a hug.

I'm sorry about Molly's news. However they should at least X-ray and ultrasound her abdomen consciously for a better look.. They shouldn't write her off just by palpation.. It could well still be a large cyst. Maybe a second opinion?

Such sad news :( but I agree that a second opinion may be valid.

Molly should have an ultrasound at the very least to properly diagnose the mass.

This isn't the same thing but my Emma has a thing where when she is in season, one of her ovaries will expand in size (my vet can feel it when it happens, I can't) but she gave her an ultrasound anyway just to double check that's all it was and not a cyst.
