My old cat Jess was a bit off colour recently so a trip to the vets was arranged, she had a consultation and 2 injections- apparently she had a cold with a temp of 105f. Went outside to pay and passed over £56.26 didnt think anything of it. When I got home and told the OH he commentated that it seemed quite a lot. I phoned the vets and got a statement through and the robbing b*****s charged me £33 for a consultation. I dont remember paying this much before, just wondering what consultation fees are across the country?

Was it a private vets? I find Vets4Pets the cheapest. They only do one consutation fee too. So my pig cost £22 first time and £4 the 2nd and 3rd. You can always ring up and ask what a consulation fee costs for a cat, if they quote different. Then mention you've been over charged.

Yes its a private vets but because I dont have transport and its on a bus route its extremly convienient. Follow up consutations for the same illness are free.

I was mistaken follow up consultations are not free they charge £22.50 couldnt believe it! Phoned with the other 'local' vets and all charges are very similar.

Our vets charge £35.00 the moment you walk in the door!
Second consult £25.00.

Each vets4pets charges differently depending on the area they are in x

I think ours must be fairly reasonable. Today I paid £69 which was Buzz and Woody's consultation and ivermectin jabs. It also included an emergency appointment late last night and the cost of my hamster being PTS and the cremation and ashes being put in a little box. I think Buzz and Woody's bit was £14. My Dad pays quite a lot for the cat but that's a different vet.

I'm not too sure what I pay, I'm sure it's about £25.00. I'm sure when Harvey has his check-up for his heart and we get tablets, it's just over the £30.

We paid £29 consultation for the dog at one vets, and £23 for the guinea pigs.

To be honest vets are extortionate in my eys we had to pay out £408 for a prolonged ear infection in our dog this included all fees, drops, general A, and cleaning etc but still:(

We are still waiting three weeks later for argos insurance to pay out!

At my practice we charge £24 for a first consultation for cats and dogs, if you have to come back with the same problem then the consult fee decreases down each time.
For guineas a 1st consult is £ 10.80.

all consults are plus medication.

I've worked in quite a few practices and fees vary greatly, where I am now I think is fairly reasonable compared to some.

my vets is in buckinghamshire and is a private vet. consulataion fee for my cat is about £32. they aren't cheap but i've used them forever and if you are short of money and tell them, you can do payment plans.

i took my ferret last week as he has a skin infection. the whole thing cost me £24 for tablets and consultaion which i thought was really good.

Ours is around £35 first consultation, £22 repeat/second, £12 quick check up, I think.

I have never really thought about vets being expensive, I just get on with it and pay it.

Try having a horse...you're looking at around £60 before they've even got out the Land Rover lol.

Mine is £17 that was for 2 piggies, they even took Milo's stitches out for free and gave him a check over and he was neutered at another vet.

Normally it's £17 for one but if I sneak another in, they will have a look for me :)!

We did however get an Xray and Consultation that was £38.

Maybe they charge more for dogs and cats?

This is the one I go to.

They are a bit of a no frills vet but they do the job fine [no good with guineas though like most of them]
I think its about £18 for a consultation [£12 small animals]

i took my 2 piggies last night to the vets.

They both had thier nails cut

Both had front and back teeth checked

Both had heart and lungs checked

That cost us £16

I thought it was very reasonable for the full check up for 2

Our vet charges £25.90 per guinea pig for a consultation, she's very cavy savvy.
We also use our local vets for anything not too specialist and they charge £9.00 for a consultation and don't charge any extra for multiple piggies at the same appointment. (they in fact encouraged me to bring both rather than make two appointments!)
One of the vets there who was very knowledgable although has now left, only charged £5! She was great with them and we really miss her.
