Mrs Teapot

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want to get this right for the new baby piggies.

Do I put Vit c drops in the water bottle even though its in the dry pellet food?

Thanks so much.

Food is I think the best bet. Apparently the drops can make the water a little bitter but they won't mind it in their food.
But if it has added vit C mayb you shouldnt add any? but I'm not sure

You don't need vitamin 'c' drops. As long as they have their dry pellets and make sure they have vitamin c in some of their vegetables they will be fine.

I used to buy it for mine but was advised on here that they are just a waste of money as they are not essential.

Thanks for that info, both of you.

Really grateful for all advice. :):):)

Just to add to the great advice given .... I read somewhere that the 'goodness' of the vitamin C drops drastically drops over time - thats why you see some G.Pig food stating 'protected Vitamin C'.

So if you were to use them you would need to completely replenish the water bottle on a daily basis.

Also apparently some piggies don't like the taste of the drops in the water so choose not to drink. Not sure if thats right as I have never used them, its just what I heard :p

I've heard the taste puts them off drinking at all, which is dangerous! vitamin c drops are a waste of money, just give them extra veg instead! oh and keep their food in sealed containers!

mine dont eat much of there dry food so i bought some vit c drops and add it to their water. they drink the same amount if not more now, it does turn it a funny colour though but they seem to prefer it

Definately echo the posts above. I would only use Vit C for convalescing piggies :)

Me too.

Just feed lots of nice fresh vegs and fruit and dried mix or pellets.
Yes Vit C does deteriorate all time so it is best not to buy too much all at once if it will take a long time for the piggies to get through.

Some vegetables have a higher Vit C content.

Vitamin c drops

I found that adding the drops to my girls' water bottle caused a nasty residue round the waterline that was difficult to get off.
I don't bother with the drops now.I just make sure they have plenty of vitamin c in their diet.:)
