I have been advised from the vet to give Connie half a flavored dissolvable vitamin C tablet to boost her vitamin C levels. The problem is that the only ones I can find anywhere are about the size of a 10 pence piece and are 1000 mg. Are these the ones that the vet means as 1000 mg seems a lot to me. I have been told that a guinea pig can technically not have too much vitamin C as it can not harm them. Is this true?

It does seem like a lot and I'd be a bit wary of it seeing as the recommended dosage is 10-30mg/kg daily. So 1 of those tablets contains as much as 100 times as much vitamin C as they need. You also need to be careful as these types of soluble tablets contain large amounts of sweetener that can have a laxative effect.

You can buy tablets in pharmacies that contain around 200mg of Vit C and are easy to break into quarters. All of my pigs would take them quite happily if I just pop it into their mouth. Haven't had to do it for a while, though.
