I used to give my guinea pigs lettuce everyday as their source of vitamin c. My senior guinea pig is becoming more and more picky and will barely eat lettuce. What other options are their for vitamin c? I need something that's low in calcium

Does your piggy have other veggies or eat pellets? Most pellets are fortified with vitamin c as well as it being in other veggies too so as long as your piggy is eating a varied diet he will be fine

you i give them other veggies but I'm afraid its not enough vitamin c. I give them pellets to but i heard that the vitamin c doesn't stay inside the pellets for long, do you know if that's true?

Thanks so much for the link! My guinea pigs are very picky and the only things they like from that list is kale and carrots and brocolli. I know they cant have brocolli and carrots often, but could i replace the lettuce with kale? Is it low in calcium?

No I’m afraid kale is far too high in calcium. It should only be given as a once a week food in very small amounts

Oh ok thanks. It says on the list that celery leaves have vitamin c, do the stalks also have?

There is also vit c in hay and fresh grass.
The vitamin c does degrade over time and need to be used within a certain amount of time from opening and this is why buying small bags is best. They will be fine for a few months though.

However, the fact remains with plenty of hay, grass, a variety of veg (although I do note you say he is picky), and a small amount of pellets, then they usually enough vit c.

There is some vitamin c in every vegetable.
