Hi again

This sort of relates to my thread for help/advise for my girly Speedy.

Having realised that veg either gives her diahorrea or bloat she is currently having no veg at all and then I will be introducing one type at a time to eliminate the culprits! rolleyes

Anyway I have bought some Oxbow Vitamin C tablets for Speedy as I know she is going to need it whilst not on veg but she won't eat them! :{

Does anyone have any ideas how I can ensure she gets this one tablet a day? or does anyone have any other suggestions on other ways to give vit c?
I was wondering about the effervescent tablets available for us humans, but I have no idea if this is safe, how much to give etc etc? :red

I would be really grateful for some help/advise. inbreeding

When I first got my boys from Pets at Home they told me to buy the pro c probiotic and add to their daily drinking water. I was doing that until I found out that I didn't have to if they were getting a variety of veg. Perhaps you could buy that and add to the drinking water? I'm just a newbie to guinea pigs myself so I am sure there will be better ideas perhaps.

I always remember when I was young we used to give the pigs Vit C drops in their water. It may be worth giving it a go :)

I thought if they had daily green vegatables they would not need vitamin c in their water,or do they need both?

I have used this before http://petshop2u.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=johnsons-rabbit-vitamin-drops-10116 it can also be brought from pet shops.

My vet advised me not to put anything in the water bottle as it can put the guinea pigs off drinking from the bottle. I brought one of those small spray bottles, poured the drops in there and sprayed a couple of pumps on to the dry food. (It does say on the bottle that it can be added to the food).

My pigs didn't know the difference :)

dry piggies food should contain vitamine c. i don't know if there should be supplement on top of that.

I strongly advise against adding vitamin C to the water.
a) the vitamin gos off very quickly, but the additive helps the growth of algae and you end up with a water bottle going green in record time! Many piggies do not like the taste of the solution and will drink as little as they can. (Have been there myself before I joined the forum!)
b) you cannot control the intake that way.

If you want to add extra vitamin C to the one that is already in the dry food, either place a small part of a vitamin C tablet firmly in the mouth or dissolve it in a small quantity of water (1-5ml) and give it via syringe. That way, you can control the intake and make sure that the vitamin C is fresh.

Here is more info about vitamin C and scurvy: http://www.guinealynx.info/scurvy.html

I add vitamin c to their water but i also make sure their both have plenty of fresh food that contains vitamin c, both pigs seem to drink water and I am change their water twice a day anyway so there is never any build up in their bottle. I only put it in their water as their won't eat their dry food if it is sprayed onto it (lol can't piggie be ackward), so I see putting it in the water as a boost rather than their daily intake.
