I have just got Wallace out for his weekly weigh in and was giving him a check over. I noticed some hard creamish coloured stuff stuck to his hair near his rear end and assume it was dried boar glue. Looking closer I noticed a mark on one of his testicles and on further inspection a scab came away. His cage mate has been unusually "chasey" today so I guess it could have happened then? Because it's located on an already "swollen" (!) part of his body I can't tell if it is an abscess or not. I have cleaned it with diluted hibiscrub - any other advice? Vets tomorrow?

You have done the right thing by disinfecting. I would have it checked by a vet tomorrow, but it looks rather superficial and not like an abscess to me. It is rather impossible to say what it is.

Thank you. I don't think it's an abscess but am not too keen on trying to squeeze this area! I'll getting him looked at tomorrow by my vet. Thanks again.

Thank you again for the advice. Wallace has seen the vet this morning. Fortunately the wound has not gone through to the testicle and he agrees with you that it is more superficial. He doesn't think it should form into an abscess but I am to continue bathing it and he thinks it will clear up in the next few days. Obviously, I'll keep an eye on it to ensure that an abscess or infection does not develop. He also thinks it was probably caused yesterday afternoon when Clegg decided to get a bit randy as the dried on gunk was, indeed, boar glue or as I called it to the vet "rude juice"!
