Hi!

How often should water bottles last? Also, how long have you been using your water bottles? I've had this one since September... The other day, I filled it and I pressed the bottom of the nasal to see if it would drip out but it didn't. I poured a little water out then tried again. After a second attempt, water did drip out, but it didn't come out the way it should... It just leaked a little out of the bottom. Even hooked onto the cage, it doesn't leak out or anything. Only when I press it, water leaks out the same way. Even though there is water coming out for them, just to be safe, I do plan on buying a new one. I do clean out the inside of the nasal, so I know the water isn't working because it's dirty. There's just something wrong with the ball part...

I hope this post makes sense, it was a little hard to explain.

It would depend on the make and type of the bottle. I used to buy the expensive glass ones, but I now get the very cheap plastic ones and change them every 4 - 6 months. It depends on the piggies drinking style how long they last I think. I have a couple of piggies that bite the end of the nossle and push the ball bearing up hard, after a while the ball gets stuck and or dented and the bottles will leak.

That's what I use, the plastic cheap ones! The one I'm using has pink stripes with a little turtle inside. When I used to have hamsters, I remember that the bottle would last more than three years... That's another story though, lol. I suppose I got a good 10 months out of it.

Honestly I prefer the glass bottles. My last pair were originally in a Ferplast that came with a bottle, but it turned out to be a dodgy bottle so they had a water bowl for the first couple of weeks. When I moved them to the Midwest I also bought glass bottles (Honey and Hopper in my case) and I wouldn't go back to plastic ones now. I've had two pigs at separate times of my life that, whatever way they drank, it destroyed the bottle lol. The metal spout would forever fall off and they'd need replacing like...every six weeks. It definitely wasn't worth it.

I loved the glass bottles originally and they were great on Spike and Peanut's commercial cage. Then I found that the spout dented easily when chewed by certain other pigs and then bottle leaked. They also don't fit on the C&C cages very well as they seem to be the wrong size for the bar spacing using the cradles and if you try to clip them outside they hang at an odd angle and the vaccum won't work properly. I agree the Ferplast ones that come with the cages are terrible for leaking, I think I've had four and they all leaked straight away. We are getting on very well with the Classic Midi's at the moment.
