hi guys

i just wanted to ask what was a normal intake for piggies drinking water. i know that everyones different but now the pigs are seperated iv noticed craig drinks 3/4 of a bottle of water everyday it seems a lot for a small pig? is this normal? x

I don't know specifically, but mine drink very little each day, which worries me sometimes. I know when I first got Archie he drank an awful lot, but that was due to how he was kept previously. Now he drinks very little. I can't really answer your question, but maybe keep an eye on him as it could mean he has an underlying problem.

def keep an eye on him.
Some of mine drink quite alot others drink only a little.
I have to say romeo used to drink loads and he had cystitis.
However Bezu drinks loads and hes ok.

thanks for this, this is what i was worried about it may be an indicator for another problem. if anyone can help that would be great x

he has done it ever since he got seperated from david, hes always having a drink x

my two hardly ever touch the bottle, in fact, i have only once seen one of them at it and ive had them approx four weeks!

My last two always drank loads, then one of them stopped and i never saw him drink again.

Previous to that i had a normal boy that drank the same amount most days throughout his life.

They all so different arent they. I think you just have to be careful of big changes in drinking habits x

ye hes been doin it now since july so its quite a while. i dunno may be hes thirsty I'm very paranoid and worry xx

Hi

I reckon a check up at the vets maybe?

My two current piggies barely drink but I lost a piggie 5 weeks ago and he drank alot for the few months before we lost him.

A check up never hurts :)

Is he showing any other signs of ill health?

Is he very active? Does he eat a lot of hay or nuggets?

Is his weight normal?

If everything else is normal with him then he is probably ok but any deviation from his normal pattern can be a sign something is not quite right.

Eilidh x

my maisie worried me when we got her, because ches hardly drinks at all, but then we got maisie and she drinks non stop! she always seems to be at the bottle! i've had her checked over a few times, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. she has a wet bum but she wasn't weeing on herself, she just drags her skirt through her wee! rolleyes maybe best to get to the vets for a check up just to be sure if you are really worried. :)

It's possible that he's always drunk a lot but you only notice it now because he's been separated. I would just keep an eye on him and if he starts loosing weight or becoming less active then pop to the vets. Hopefully he will be ok. Good luck :)

hes still acting normal like he always has. hes quite lazy craig hes not very active and greedy hahah he eats a lot of nuggets and readigrass and veg hes never ate as much hay as david. hes quite a chunky pig a lot chunkier than david x but this has always seemed normal 'craig' behaviour.xx

well thats a good thought because when i had them both together there was two water bottles in the cage and they used to use them both as soon as i seperated them i noticed craigs bottle was going down a lot (over a 24 hour ish period then i change it) x

Maybe if he eats a lot of nuggets he is just thirsty as they are dry.

My piggie that drank a lot was not an active piggie either so never understood why he drank so much but I think in the end it was to do with his ill health. But that is not to say you are in the same position...every piggie is different.

If * r still worried a check up would put your mind at ease :)
