Hi there, just curious as to how many people use bottles to water their piggies and how many use bowls - and what their piggies prefer if you've tried both..

Thanks :)

i use both, purely because i worry about the bottles, firstly the bottles seem fine and then i come back from shopping and they have leaked all over the cage so i put a bowl for back up just in casexxxx

Do your piggies drink okay from a bowl? Do they mess it up at all?

I'm gonna build a nice c&c cage next week and would definately prefer a bowl as 1) the dripping problem and 2) i think it looks neater

But if they dont like this then I'd continue to use a bottle :)

:)I use bottle for most of mine apart from Rosie - she has a gravity bowl thingy because she is still quite small and at the petting farm were she used to live she was fed by a chick feeder so the bowl is more comfortable for her
I prefer the bottles because they keep the water fresher and are easier to re-fill :) :))

I find bottles are the most hygienic and you don't have the worry of whether they might have upset the bowl during the day and then not had any water... although I'm sure you could fix it down. I've occasionally had to use bowls for piggies who won't use a bottle and I find them messy to clean. You have to keep an eye on bottles, and also remember they're usually quite large but that doesn't mean the water doesn't need changing daily like a bowl would (or more often)

I used to use bowls because Pola would flat refuse to drink from a bottle, and I hated it...I had to change the water in it several times a day because it seemed like they scooched their bums to the bowl and pooped in it, besides the hay and pellets they deposited in it! :))

Just my experience :p glad Pola seems to be using the water bottle now.

the bowl does get yucky but as with any bowls it needs to be cleaned and washed daily,if its washed reguarly then there shouldnt be to much of a problem,i just find it puts my mind at ease that they have two water sources;)

I have to say that I prefer to use bottles. I previously used bowls but found them difficult to keep clean due to bits of hay , food etc which kept falling in. The final straw came when my piggy discovered he could tip the bowl over and persisted in doing this repeatedly! Since then it's just been bottles.
