Hey everyone, can anyone recommend a good hutch cover?

I recently purchased a (very expensive) hutch cover from Pets at Home, made to fit the hutch I'd bought from the same shop.

I've been disappointed by the hutch itself - after only one year it's already shown serious signs of weather damage even though it cost £100.

The cover was purchased to try and protect it a little.

So you can imagine my shock when I found the cover isn't even waterproof!

In fact, it lets water in the top then traps it between the cover and hutch exasperating the problem of water pooling and causing damage.

That's bad. :(
Which hutch is it? Bluebell/ rose cottage?

I have used the bluebell previously, and bought the scratch and Newton hutch hugger, and also the rain cover to put on top of it, and find it to be really good. x :)

Thanks for your suggestion @Chief Guinea Pig

The hutch is Dandelion Den... I was thinking about nailing down some roof felting over the top/back and maybe using another coat of pet safe wood preserver.

Do you have any internet links to the hutch hugger and rain cover?

Thanks x

The roof felting sounds a really good idea. :)

Yep, I sure do. I don't know if it would fit your hutch though.

They aren't cheap. But brilliant quality. x

I think maybe my mistake was assuming these hutch huggers were waterproof @Chief Guinea Pig

But just feel sick at how much cheaper some of the other products on the market are including the Scratch and Newton products ... Pets at Home has well and truly ripped me off!

The scratch and Newton ones are definitely water proof. I couldn't recommend them enough! :)
Why how much did you pay for the p@h cover!?

The P@H cover was £35 ... and it's not even waterproof. I could cry about it to be honest.

Although at this stage it might be cheaper to get a small sheet of waterproof tarpaulin to throw over everything...

Yes, write them a letter. I'm sorry you are having such a terrible experience.

:( that is a bargain.

To be honest, if I know it's going to rain the piggies stay indoors... so it's more about protecting the hutch from even more damage in bad weather than them.

But I did like the idea the hutch hugger works to keep them cool in summer ... and my mind would be put at rest if there was a summer rain shower that they were definitely dry (the hutch doesn't actually leak, it's simply that it's getting more and more damaged).

Yeah the hutch hugger is really versatile. I don't think I have any more advice, if you do need any give me a shout! :)
I hope you get it sorted out.
