Hi guys,

I noticed about a week ago this sort of wet spot/balding/wet patch on the corner of both of my piggies eyes. I took her immediately to the vet and upon examination, they didn’t really find anything - she suggested it could just be some blocked ducts and told me to keep her under observation.
To be honest, she is completely normal otherwise, and there has been no changes of behaviour or on her environment or with the rest of the herd. I did treat her for mites just in case that could be the cause but there are no signs on her or any of the other piggies.

Is this something to worry about? Should I go get a second opinion with an exotic Vet?

I also noticed her nipples were a tiny bit crusty, but I have seen that with other piggies in the past and never really made much of it - they have all been well and alive for years now 🥹

Are you using a new hay or bedding? I’m wondering if the dust could be making her clean her eyes more frequently therefore producing more of the milky fluid they use to wash their eyes? The bald patch near her eye is likely from the fluid but you need to make sure her skin in that area doesn’t get sore. Or I could of course be completely wrong.

If you’re still worried about her, I’d suggest another vet visit x

If the fluid coming from her eyes is clear that that usually signifies there is irritation in the eyes - hay dust is a prime one but not the only potential cause

If it is a milky white, then that is normal cleaning fluid.

Any green or yellow colour can indicate infection.
